So Pedro has always been a fussy eater, regularly missing feeds and generally causing us constant worry (still love him though). He's not far off nine months old now and we have him on a steady double pinky diet. The thing is, he's easily big enough for fuzzies now, being about the same width as them, but he refuses to go near them, even the small ones. The pinkies we feed him are way too small, they leave no bump at all and he inhales them in seconds. Iv tried leaving him for a week, rather than the usual five days before offering a fuzz but to no avail. Iv tried tong feeding but he runs away. Iv tried leaving him overnight with it (this is how he usually feeds on pinkies) but no luck. The other day i tried to get him on three pinkies but he decided he didn't want anything at all that night. Has anyone had experience with this problem before? Why is my snake afraid of anything with fur? His temps are good, 29 hot, 22 cold. He's in a faunarium covered on three sides in a quiet room. I should add that, apart from his fussy eating, he's in great health. The little guy needs to get some calcium in him though as his growth is pretty much non existent. Thanks peeps.

May sound daft if u think its the fur that's the issue. Pass the fuzzie over a flame briefly an burn the fluff off |

Have you tried rat pups if you havent I would try that also do you feed him in his faun if you do I would try to put him in the smallest tub (with holes) that he will fit in with a fuzzy or a rat pup and leave him in it over night with it (I normally put the tub in the viv half on the heat and half off so it doesn't get to hot or to cold) |

Have you tried feeding more than two pinks? He may well take 3 or 4 even more just to get him used to larger meals, had to do this with my Blairs King, she is now on small mice just a couple of months after finishing with pinkies. |

I managed to get a Rat pup-only-eating girl to eat mice by waiting until she had shed, then gave her the smallest rat pup I could find and then gave her a nice fat med mouse. This was in a feeding tub (just a faunarium). She had gone 11 days without so was quite hungry You could try defrosting the mouse with the pink and shaking the bag-to try and 'scent'the mouse, warming the food item can always be worth a try. Try not to stress-so long as he's drinking o.k. and active. |
