I'm setting up my 1st wooden viv, & getting ready to move Lola across after she has fed tonight (& i've waited 48hrs). I am also picking up a lot of useful info from other peoples posts about moving their snakes into new homes. The only question I have on the subject is peoples opinions about changing to a ceramic heater in a wooden viv over a heat mat??

I use a guarded bulb for my vivs.
They're used with a habistat dimming thermostat and digital thermometre.
Very easy and would recommend it.

I only use ceramics with Manson. Being a boa shes heavy bodied and risks burning on a mat (thermo-regulation differences). My corns are do well on mats. Its all about preference though

I use heat mats with my corns in their wooden vivs, just because then I don't have to bother with a guard and fitting it Working well so far for me.

Not sure what size viv you have but a ceramic in a small viv will certainly bring the ambient up, a heat mat is just fine for corns.

I have a Vivexotics 34" compact viv Mick, I have ordered a new 20w lucky reptile thermo mat, which should arrive tomorrow from Swell reptiles. :-)

Good choice, as said I found the ambient got too high when trying ceramics in my LX36 vivs. I now only use ceramics in my EX48 vivs for my carpet and in the near future my Russian Rat.
