Hi all I'm new to this site but have been reading a lot of stuff on here, over last few days. I have a hatchy ghost corn called popcorn. I got him last feb (23rd) and he shed within a week! He was on 1 pinkie every 5 days for 4 weeks and is now on 1fuzzie a week and has just had his 3rd fuzzie Monday gone. Never had a problem with feeding him. He strikes then constricts his food. He's about 17" long and weighs 28g. He's the length plus width of his faun in length, but only the size of my pinkie in size. But I'm wondering why he's still so nervous when it comes to picking him up. Once I've got him he's fine, even with my 2 daughters and partner. Oh and I've been crapped and peed on so I'm well and truly christened too lol.

don't worry some corns are like that, your snakes faun is his territory and when you pick him up your taking him from his safety zone. It will get better with handling sessions.

Thanks for quick reply. I'm hoping so, I love handling him. An already want another on lol. How often do they shed as he's not shed since feb? And if he handles a fuzzie easily when do you think it's safe to give him 2?

They normally shed every 4 to 5 weeks at that age, so i'd imagine he should shed soon. At his weight i'd leave him on one fuzzie for a bit. One of my corns has just started having two fuzzies and he was just over 40g. Some people go from one fuzzie straight to a small mouse, i prefer two fuzzies though. As long as the mouse is no bigger than 1.5 times the width of the widest part of your snake.

Hello there,just a thought to add to the handling/tameness debate;
I thought wee baby corns are so fast because at that size they are very much at the business end of the food chain

It will be 6 weeks tomorrow since last shed so I'm expecting him to shed again very soon then. An I'm gonna keep him on 1 fuzzie a week for a while then as its the ideal size for his body now. I'm considering getting him a 3 foot viv in a month or so. Is the heat mat on for that or ceramics?

I've got 15 hatchlings at the moment some are calm some are all over the place when you pick them up.
heat mats are fine for 3 foot vivs. when moving to a viv make sure there are quite a few hides for cover so your snake dosen't get to stressed out moving to a bigger space.

I'm gonna build my viv from a flat pack. Someone posted a step by step guild on building a flat pack viv on here an it was excellent. But I can't find it sadly. We're can I get a good flat pack viv for reasonable price?

I am with Luke on this one Popcorn - I have my little girl in a small Monkfield and they are superb. My husband is going to build her big girl home when she is ready for it, but considering the life span of corn snakes kept in captivity, a little more spent would be a good investment. Start getting the bits and bobs you need now, and when the time comes, it won't hit your bank as hard as it would getting it all in one go. Hello by the way, I am new too

Thank you luke, Hi foxtrotsierra, I'm gonna looking into the big one. Popcorn is in a medium faun now but he's the same length as the length an width of his faun. Just not very big. He's been on pinkies for 3 weeks now.

Is it this topic you was looking for popcorn? http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10789
Why not try ebay, gumtree, preloved or selling pages on fb, see if anyone is selling their old viv and you may get yourself a bargain
These are on offer just now http://www.reptiles.swelluk.com/reptile-supplies/vivariums-416/compact-vivariums--1310/vivexotic-compact-vivarium-medium-mussel-34--353285.html and that the cheapest I've seen :)

I was in the pet shop yesterday Popcorn, and saw the VivExotics one that you were linked up to (just in a different colour). I had a really good look and they do seem really good value for money

The just under 3 foot one is perfect for the space I have for it. Once I get money ill get it an hopefully most of the stuff I have in the faurn will be useful in viv. Just surprised he's only had one shed since feb, an there's no sign of him shedding yet.
