Bazilishka has produced a strange poo - no blood, but there were pure white jelly like globules ( about 4 - 5 mm - not urates or mouse fur ), and the poo was also very small. I thought they could be worms or tape worm segments at first, but on closer inspection ( wasn't nice ) it seemed too soft. Anyway, took a sample and got it down to the vets - got a phone call today, and she's got flagellates. I was told I'll need to bring her in for worming, which will then need to be repeated 2 x more, every 2 days. Am dreading it, as she's in blue, and she's got such a small head, I can't imagine dosing her, and I'm scared it could damage her mouth and cause a mouth rot. The vet is a reptile vet, and said he'll show me, how to do it, but I'm still nervous. I've just been trying to do some research on it on internet today, apparently, they get it from mice, and it's normal for snakes to have a certain amount of flagellates. Does this mean she'll get them straight back again after eating the next mouse? I want her wormed, but don't want to do it needlessly. She's not showing any problems, she's eating and gaining weight, looks healthy and chunky and has a very good muscle tone... anyone has an experience of snake parasites? |

As your vet is a reptile vet I would be inclined to agree with him. It does sound like a scary thing to learn to do but he wouldn't be getting you to do it if it wasn't safe for you to do, that wouldn't be ethical. It is possible your snake could catch them again but if you just left them it could begin to affect her health over time. It's better for her not the have them really |

Thanks, Moppet, I think I will. I'm going to wait for her to shed first though, and then take her down to the vets - I know it will upset her, as she doesn't enjoy handling, so might as well not add to the stress with her being in blue. I'd thought about it, and I'd feel really bad, if she suddenly started going downhill fast, because I haven't wormed her. I'm going to have Little T checked, too. Thanks for the reassurance, I always tend to panic and stress first, when there's something wrong with my animals ( and immediately imagine the worst ). |

I'm exactly the same so I know how you feel. Good idea on having Little T checked too, hopefully he'll not have them too. Good luck for the treatment. |

Done :-) Hope the next two doses will be as easy.... Haven't checked Little T yet, he's holding onto his poo ( cue a big bulge, ready , near the vent ) - as he's blue now... |
