Sat watching tv last night when all of a sudden it sounded like a gun had been fired in the lounge. The light bulb in one of the skinks houses had gone. It literally exploded into loads of pieces with an almighty bang. Mad rush to remove George. Luckily he buries himself so it was a case of removing as much glass as we could then carefully digging around until we found him. Picked him up popped him in to a box and fully cleaned out the viv. Thank god George was not out and about, must of made the poor fellow jump though. He has been out and about today so he was obviously not bothered by the loud bang. I am now torn between putting a guard on the bulbs or leaving them. We don't use guards, as advised, as this means they can jump on to the guard and then have the potential of sitting there and with the extreme heat they need for the basking site it concerns me that they could get burnt by the guard. With out a guard they can not cling/get near to the bulb at all. Just so glad he is ok. Terrified the life out of me.

Glad the little guy is ok. No idea what I would do, guess the chances of it happening again would be slim though.

OMG lucky George was snuggled up and out of the way!
I don't think I'd use a guard. What if George was hanging on the guard and the bulb went like it again.....he would be in line for shattered glass shards that got through the guard.

They can drop there tails yes, I am pleased to say that George is still a whole skink though lol.
Don't really know why it happened. I have had other bulbs go before and normally they just stop working. Don't really understand why it exploded.
