Hello!! Im sophie and i have decided that i want to purchase my first ever snake in the next month or so! i have never wanted one until recently. My hubby has always wanted one (not corn) so i thought if i can research it properly and find a breed im comfortable with then maybe eventually we might progress. I am having a bit of a problem already. Im very picky about what corn i want. Im in love with the lavender corns as purple is my favorite colour. I have no real idea where to buy from, how much to expect or how old my first corn should be! I have been looking at starter tanks and the 101 set up and think i have most of the basics on the shopping list. Im fully comfortable in feeding frozen (havent really read up on that bit yet mind) I would very much appreciate any sort of advice, guidance or links? Thanks in advance! Sophie (being naughty using a work computer. have now filled the internet history up with snake related info!) |

Hello and welcome!
Theres plenty of useful stickies at the top of each forum section on here Buying from private breeders is always cheaper than shops - there should be millions of babies popping up in the next few months haha |

If your in Gloucester u have some good shops near by. I can't recommend pilbara enough. They also have an openday this Saturday. Also pets mate in quedgley sell reptiles and equipment. Depends how quick u want a snake. Breeding season is starting so come may time onwards this years babies will be starting to appear. |

Yes I'm just outside of Gloucester so I can get there easily. Unfortunately I'm awake Saturday so can't make the open day! I'm not looking for a snake instantly so I'm thinking about waiting for this years hatchlings and go via a breeder.if snake breeders are the same as the breeders I have been in contact with before, it offers me the ability to stfay in contact |

Hi and welcome, as above there will be loads of hatchies available in a few months, so you should be able to find whatever you decide upon :) |

Hi and welcome,
I'm relatively new here as well. Got my first (and, as far as my husband is concerned, my only!) corn snake just 3 weeks ago. We have a lavender and he's gorgeous. But I was like you -- I had a firm idea what I wanted and was willing to wait for breeding season. I wanted a Caramel Stripe and nothing else would do. But I stopped in a nearby shop, just to do research, saw my lavender little guy, fell in love and took him home. So, you never know what you might end up with ;) -- but I'm sure you'll be very happy no matter your eventual choice.

Hi Beenie,
I'm in Stroud! We got our first Corn in 2011 from Pilbara Reptiles in Gloucester and haven't regretted it for one second! We're planning on getting another sometime this year, when they're commonly available and when we have a bit more money.
Pilbara are fantastic. Although there are local pet shops in Stroud that sell frozen food for Spider, we still make the rip to Gloucester so we can look around the shop. We'll be going on Saturday for their open day and to get some more substrate.
But you'll love having a Corn. And any advice you need can be answered by the amazingly knowledgeable and friendly people on here!! |

Hello and welcome, I made a trip down to pilbara reptiles and I was very impressed with the shop so if you are local to there then you are lucky to have a good shop near to you. Getting your equipment from the internet will probably be the cheapest option but it is always good to go and see stuff in the flesh |

I don't know to be honest. I'm going in on Saturday so I'll ask them for you. Failing that, try putting a WANTED post up on this forum in the Classifieds section and I'm sure someone will be able to help you out if they can. |

I'm dying to know though - what does your husband want? I'm guessing a royal? Or is he after a boa? |

Welcome! :) Just a general warning when picking young snakes - they tend to change quite a bit in appearance over the years :) Good luck! |

Welcome to the forum As Isoldael says, young snakes do change colour quite a bit. If you have a look at 'Falco' in my signature pic, he's a lavender and much lighter than when they are hatchlings. He's more pale pink than purple. |
