I've read in my corn snake book and on internet tip sheets that it's advisable to turn the thermostat settings down 3-5 degress celcius at night.

Do most of you do this? or not? Should I give it a go w/ my little one? or is this more something for older snakes?

Okay, cool -- thanks!

Can I ask a quick related question: if the snake spends an entire day at the cool end of the shoe box (in the hide or under the paper) does that mean the temp on the mat is too high on the hot end?

in theory, your cool side temps will drop slightly at night anyway which would give a night temp in the cool side giving them the choice, without you having to faff with the stat. I could be wrong on that but the theory works in my head :-) I don't drop the temps at night.

I don't, either. The room temperature drops at night by several degrees, and so does the cold side and ambient temperature in the viv. I keep the mat temperature even, as I think it's better for them, especially after feeding.

Nope, I don't drop temps at night either. As others have said, the room temp will often drop so the cold end will be colder so they have the option to move if they want to

thanks very much, you guys -- and I also just got back from the shop/breeders where I picked up tonight's pinkies, and they say the same as all of you. So I will keep my hands off the thermostat and rest easy. All seems well :)
