I've had my Hypo now for about 3/4 years when she was literally fresh out of the egg. In the last few weeks her behaviour has changed. She had become extremely active and is constantly roaming about her cage. Normally when she roams her cage she is usually hungry. I've offered her food but she really is not interested at all. She's more concerned about getting out of her feeding box. I've tried leaving her in it with the food with a blanket over it in the hope that if she can't see anything, she would find the food more interesting. The last time she ate was about 4 weeks ago and that was a small rat. It's not the fact that she hasn't eaten for 4 weeks ago, it's just the fact she has always been a brilliant eater and very rarely refuses food for this length of time.

I was just wondering if it is the beginning of the breeding season or anything and that she is off her food and is looking about her cage for a mate?? Or is this just a change in her personality now she seems to have reached maturity and doesn't need as much food anymore??

Anybody got any ideas on why her behaviour has suddenly changed? Any help would be appreciated!

Breeding season hormones kicking in. She won't be interested in feeding. They can go for up to 5 MONTHS so 4 weeks is nothing to worry about. Just offer a smaller mouse than normal once a fortnight. No point wasting a large one.

Same for male, female, Corns, Kings and Pythons. It is just the natural way with snakes so try not to worry, there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.

Watched snakebytes earlier, he had a royal fast for a full year and she was over 2000g before and only lost 150g over the course of the year. so they can go for ages and still be fine

Thanks for the replies!

It wasn't so much the fact she hasn't eaten but cos her behaviour changed pretty much over night! Just got be worried it was in case id done something wrong as I've moved her a lot in the past couple of months. I was worried that the move had massively upset her. She isn't prowling her cage as much and seems more than happy when I handle her and let her roam about the room. Ill try and feed her in a week or so and see if she will take it!! Think I might buy some new things for her cage for a change and see if she's happy with new things for her to explore!! Can anybody give me some hints and tips into what good items I can put into put in her cage??

Thank you!

Hm. I've just started seeing change in my Bazilishka, who's just over 2 years old ( and suddenly seems very chunky ). Her feeding behaviour's changed completely, last feed she only ate, after I left her in her old, too small feed box, back in viv, on the mat, in the dark for a while. She ate eventually, but it took ages. Last but one feed ( after looking into her records ) she took a bit of convincing as well. She always used to just fly at the food, and constrict madly - but now she just acts like she's scared of it, and tries desperately to get out of feeding box.

I reckon Auld is right re breeing season. I must admit, I'm very tempted to let her and Little T meet...she's just shed, well over 3 ft, over 300g, but she's only going to be 3 this year...
