I would of been thinking the same about not being in the field if I'd had a call like that. The girl certainly sounds special I hadn't realised Jack was 20 - he looks fab. |

Why is it that the horsey world attracts so many idiots!? In the last year or so my little sister has turned into an "I love horses 4 eva xoxo" girl lol. But she;s only 10 and I suppose we all went through that one lol. How old is this girl? |

Am not sure think she's in her teens, she's about that age where the choice tends to be horses or boys! lol your right thought there's defiantly some idiots out there. Just when I think I've seen it all some one comes along and surprises me. |

There are lots of lovely horses here, and here are mine. First up is Ralph, my slightly insane Welsh C, he thinks everything is terrifying until he's asked to jump it.
Next is Netty, he has a habit of playing rodeo as soon as I sit on him but I still love him :)
And Monaco, we had for the stud to break him in, and we ended up buying him and having him gelded for my little sister but I stole him as a jumping pony. This is his first time jumping
Next is Wendi, we backed her when she was 4, and she’s now 15, we sold her for a few years and got her back for my little sister to learn to canter on. I'v only got and old photo of her.
And Del Boy my showjumping/hunting pony, he's 23 years old and still acts like a 2 year old. This is him just before christmas where he won by 10 seconds.
Next is Glory, she's my sisters pony, but we are having to sell her as she's lost interest.
Then there Sam, my little sisters Dartmoor whos a star but likes to bite but he puts up with having to be a little girls barbie pony, to having to do fancy dress and musical rides. This is him in the evening preformance for the musical ride championship.
And finally Royce, we had him for the stud to back and to get going under saddle, he is so sweet most people dont belive he's a stallion as he would rather eat food. He has now gone back to the stud to be driven and to stand at stud. This was the last show we went to before he went back.
Sorry for the really long post but thats all of them. |

Ahh, another Welshie owner :-)
Loving Ralph, and just wow at Del Boy, in excellent shape at 23! My old sec D girl's retired at 21, she'd be ok to ride, but has got a strange type of epilepsy, that makes it unpleasant for both of us to ride her when it's sunny.
Hm, somehow, I just can't see you ending up having just the one snake... the addiction will hit soon. Have you seen Ian's vivarium morph guide yet? :-) ( Says she , not helping at all ) |

Thankyou, he's always been like that I doubt he will ever slow down, that’s a shame about your girl, is there certain things that trigger it? She still looks brilliant for her age though. You can’t beat a Welsh Cob :) Your right about the snakes if it wasn’t for my mum getting freaked out by them I would have more by now, and yes I have seen the morph guide, which was a bad move, my wishlist might have grown a bit.

Some one had definately put some extreme washing to get them to dazzle like they are in that photo I like my 'boring' bay - he doesn't show the dirt, much to the disgust of some of my friends I have competed him with poo stains on his quaters - my response was ' the judge can't see that well and should be watching how he moves, not how clean he is' |

Blackat: nothing wrong with bays :-)
Short Pants: It seems to be related to sunshine - it's a fit that only lasts about half a second and feels almost like someone's given her an electric shock, starts at the head and travels through the body. She looses control of the hind legs, but only for split second, so never actually falls. You can really feel it, if you're sat on her, but it doesn't almost show on the outside, only if it's really bad, it just looks like she's tripped.
I thought it only happened when ridden, but then I saw it happen in the stable, and recently, when it was sunny and she was out, I was leaning on her, at felt it happen again. It almost never happens when it's cloudy. She knows, when it's going to happen, and will only walk ( slowly ), never trot. I had to make her trot once with a car behind us, and it was much worse in trot, it felt like someone's grabbed her leg, and pulled it from under her. It might only happen 3 times per ride, or 10 times per minute, and it's very hard to predict.
The vet didn't know for ages ( he never saw it happen ), thought it might be something related to her spine, but that didn't explain, why it only happen in the sunshine. He then had another, young horse, with the same symptoms. After years of various tests, it proved to be some form of epilepsy. As she's 21, I decided to just let her retire, she can still give little rides to friends kids, when they come over ( as long as it's not sunny ). Just waiting for my two year old to grow up now. |

Razee - How long has she been diagnosed? Your two year old will grow up before you know it, I remember when I bought my chestnut mare at 6months old; thinking it would be forever before I would be able to do stuff with her, it was actually a great time to bond with her and walk her out in hand and show her loads of stuff, she will be 21 this year and still acts like a 4 year old. I sold her when she was 13 (hard decision) but still keep in touch with her new owner. Oh - I never said there was anything wrong with Bays, just called him a boring bay because every other horse is a bay (apart from the coloureds which seem to be taking over now) - I would love a Dun or some other more unusual colour just to be different and stick out in a crowd |

Ah, dun is my favourite, together with black, then bays.
Lucy's been diagnosed about 2 years ago, but had the problem for a while. When she was younger, she had it less often, and less severe, then it just seemed to get worse with age. I had her bloods done, and liver tested, etc. as, I'm sorry to say, the field is full of ragwort, despite me spraying and pulling it all the time. All tests came back normal, so that at least is a relief. |

glad to hear all the tests were normal must have been a worrying time for you! with regards to the 2 yo have a look at horse agility!! something you could do with her to kill the time while she grows some more! ragwort is evil and I bet you put it all that effort it controlling it and every one else around you doesn't bother! |

Glad the tests came back clear/normal - Ragwort is an awful plant, I spend every year pulling the stuff up whenever I see it in or close to my fields. Horses can be such a worry with health issues of one kind or another but I wouldn't be with out mine lupi lou's idea of horse agility is a good one for your youngster |

Yep - how did you know? I have the rag sprayed by the local farmer, year after year - but often it just doesn't die, so I end up having to pull anyway. I even sprayed the whole 5 acres by hand ( nightmare ), but at least I can do it at the right time, strip by strip. I can clear an area, but within 3 weeks, it's back. I strip graze, and during summer, i pull the rag 2x day, trying to at least keep the bit where they are clear... if the field was mine, I'd leave it for a year, and have it sorted, but can't do it, as I'd have to pay 2 separate rents + the work.
My two neighbours just don't care, they've got lots of ragwort, so fighting a loosing battle, really.
I know for sure Lucy won't touch it, she selects out even the tiniest leaves from the grass, it's the two year old, that I worry about. I saw him eating a bit, and was freaking out, that he doesn't know not to eat it. Then I saw he spat it out, but it still makes me really uneasy. That would be one reason for me to leave, if I found somewhere else. Ragwort, ferns and brambles ( and no facilities ). On the other hand, the field is very sheltered, south west facing, lots of natural cover, got varied terrain, many kinds of beneficial herbs as well as grass, in a nice area, fairly safe, they have free access to the stables, etc. ( and cheap compared to other places ).
Re horse agility - I saw it, it's brilliant. I've got no transport, but I'd set up my own course in the field, and bless him, he did most of it straight away, tarpaulin is the only problem :-)

They do online monthly competitions you'd just need some one to record it, i always look at the online course just for ideas!! Finding that perfect place is near impossible, you just need to decide if the pros of where you are at are better than the cons. It sounds like it has its good points. Horses are a worry I've found the more I have learnt about them the more paranoid I have become! The biggest mistake I made was going to a colic seminar I came out convinced that Jack was doomed (he's prone to colic and no longer is insured due to a claim)! |

Hi, Sorry for the really late reply, I haven't been on in a while with moving house, no internet, exams and work.
Razee- Iv never heard of that, it must of been a worry when you rode her not knowing when it was going to happen, she looks like she's enjoying retired life.
Quite a bit has changed since I was last on here, Sam has gone on loan to a friend to get their little girl riding as my sister has Wendi. Iv been asked to ride a sec A stallion called Cassino for the stud who own Royce. Here he is at his first ever show under saddle after being backed 2 weeks.
We also brought Havery back after we sold him 6 years ago. This is him in 2007 and then last weekend at his first show with me since we got him back.
How's everyone else's horses?
