Had a bit of a let down regarding picking up Indy on Monday. I'm now picking a completely different snake up on either Tuesday or Wednesday. So frustrated at the store right now! But still keeping the name 'Indy' though for new snake.

I've been handling the first Indy for about a week, but went to the store today to find out that they sold her...despite me already paying for her and them reserving her for me to collect on Monday. I've written a very strong worded complaint to the store.

Someone on Facebook asked if it was a chain store which I don't think it is, but can't mention names of stores on here...although pet store in question is in Henlow, Bedfordshire (probably gave it away now lol). Normally the staff at the store seem to know what they are talking about, but I was shocked, angry and upset to find out what they had done.

To be honest, my P@H has been great whenever I go in there. The reptiles, fish and animals are all healthy and any dead fish are immediately removed from the tanks. I'm actually considering going to P@H to get my new snake. Just got to hope I get my money back from the other store first.

I'm going back to the store on Tuesday, and I will get my money back even if I have to fight for it. Will just use them for equipment etc. Thankfully I have the receipt for 'Indy' in my bag as she was only on hold there whilst I got my faunarium sorted this weekend.

So frustrated right now at the moment *sigh*

if you have paid for the snake in full they have broke the law by selling something that did not belong to them

I know. Hence my strong worded letter. I can't be bothered to contact the RSPCA or anyone else as it would take ages to sort out and it's my word against the store x

It may be your word against theirs, but you have proof you bought/paid for/reserved your snake for collection. As stated above, they have broken the law and their agreement to you. I would pursue it just to make sure it didn't happen to anyone else!

I would get my money back for the snake and never use them again for anything. If you have bought the equipment at the same time as a part of a deal and have not used it yet I would be taking that back and demanding my money back for that also. You will probably get it a lot cheaper online anyway.
I know it is hard to have to wait for something you want but don't rush into buying another one just to have one. It sounds like you fell for the original Indy so just make sure you feel the same way about the next one you get even if it means waiting for a bit to find the right one.

It happens all the time, you kinda have to buy the snake you want there and then. I don't know what morph you got or if the shop had multiple ones of the same morphs but generally, if it is something like a normal/amel/snow or something they have many of, they don't let people reserve a specific snake, just one of a colour. Though it seems like they have mislead you specially since you had a name and had seen her multiple times. Only thing you can do is complain to the store manager, nothing anyone else can do I just hope you have a prof of deposit or saying. I do't see whats wrong with P@H either, but because of how they are a chain your always going to have a few bad ones people bad mouth and some ones that are good. I would just ask them what their policy of terms of if the animal dies within x amount of time what they would do about it but I would ask every pet store that.

A very special super, duper thanks for K :3

That's really bad I'm sorry that it has happened to you.

The best thing to do would be to get your deposit back and not use them for equipment either as then you are reducing the business they get too.

Sounds like you have one of the good P@H stores. They're not all bad, but unfortunately my local one isn't one of the good ones in terms of their animal care.

I assume you mean the 'fancy fish' company!
You must be so disappointed. You're quite right to send a letter of complaint.
I know somebody else that had the same thing happen to them. It needs sorting out.
Sometimes these companies get too big and then misunderstandings happen but that really is no excuse for selling your snake.
Good luck.

I'm sorry for you, having such a bad experience right at the beginning of snake ownership. Just a thought - it might be worth finding out, if there are any breeders around your area. That way you will have a good choice, and you'd know they won't sell your snake to someone else, plus they 'd probably be much cheaper than big stores - and you'd have the full history and breeding of your snake, too.

That's such a rotten thing to happen Make sure you get your money back as others have said, and personally, I'd never use the store again for anything! Have a look on Preloved for local breeders, it would let you see where the snake was bred and you'd pay a lot less for your new snake from a breeder. Don't let it put you off, your new snake is out there just waiting for you to take her home

Thanks everyone for your help and kind support.

Was wondering if anyone had used Blue Lizard Reptiles website for ordering snakes and if so what feedback do you have for them?

I've seen a lovely Caramel 2012 Corn snake for sale, but obviously never used a website for ordering live animals before.

Go to the Citizens Advice Bureau to see what you can do, you must have been protected by consumer rights given that you had purchased the snake and they had agreed to look after YOUR snake whilst you got it's housing sorted.

Thanks Andy. I live pretty far away from there...as in Bedfordshire lol. I also don't drive at this moment in time, as I am currently re-learning my theory exam.

I've sent off a few question regarding their corn snake and animal delivery option and providing I get the right answers back I might order one online.

I've used them for F10 (and they were very good) but not used them for livestock.
I always prefer to see any pet in the flesh before buying. I'd be too worried there may be an issue with the animal and I'd be too emotional to deal with it all.
