I'm actually setting up my Terrarium now so I can get things exactly right before I go searching for my first corn snake.
Just wondering if you can check and see if I have missed anything for me please?
Things I already have
Terranium Exo Terra - 45x45x45 Aspen Shavings Water bowl Heat mat Thermostat Terranium lock Feeding tongs Snake cave Digital Thermometer - Exo Terra
Things I have ordered online - just waiting for them
Exo Terra Terranium Backgrounds - 45x45x45 Fake plants Exo Terra Hide 2nd Digital Thermometer - Exo Terra
That's the list :)
Also another question regarding the heat mat. When it comes to setting it up, do I need a sheet of polystyrene to place it onto first? Or can I just use tape to attach it to the bottom of the tank straight away?

Using polystyrene will help keep the heat up and stop you losing heat out the bottom. Which means you will use less electricity and won't over work the mat. There should be just the right about if room for a sheet if polystyrene under the exo. You could always put the mat inside the viv using the wire channels at the back? Apart from that it sounds good. I would add a plastic tub for feeding in x |

All sounds good and as Georgina said the feeding tub and polystyrene is a good idea also just an idea but i would put a new corn on kitchen roll for a month or so just so you can check everything is normal with its toileting habits then onto aspen |

Looks good - only thing I would comment on is the exo terra background... loads of people have complainned that their snake hides behind them and they cannnot get them to come out, and they have more than once been a culprit for panicked 'I thought my snake had escaped' posts only to find it was behind the background all the time ;) |

One thing to note is that snakes can escape from the smallest of gaps. Make sure you seal all gaps where the wires go in the terrarium. You may also find that your snake will get behind the background via the spaces left for wires. You might be able to get a free sheet of polystyrene from your local DIY store. I got some free that they use between their shower screen glass. It's rubbish to them so they're glad to get rid of it. |

Another vote for the background hiding i have a background and my snake can still get behind it when she wants too and she is nearly 2 years old and around 150g |

I ended up using cork tiles instead. Easier to find and they look nicer. |

depending on the age of the corna feeding tub isnt necessary, infact its not necessary either way lol. Young corns are better left in their housing to be fed less stress for them. |

Thanks for the replies everyone.
My friend gave me a surprise present yesterday, which was a hatchling beginner faunarium kit!
Was really surprised, but very pleased. I'm not using the dial thermometers for it though as I have already got 2 Exo Terra Digital ones and would rather get things right straight away than have to panic later lol.
I'm actually getting my Corn Snake in the next couple of weeks....so excited :D
I have no idea what morph I want yet, but I have chosen the name for it already lol.

Ooooh how exciting!!! look forward to pics and it was very nice of your friend to buy the starter faunarium set but deff agree with your decision to stick to your digital thermometers they are much more accurate |
