What are your thoughts on keeping a snake and a hamster in the same room?
Both in separate tanks and well away from each other obviously lol.
Can this be done?

I wonder if the scent of the other would affect them in a negative way. Would the hamster be afraid if he knew there was a snake nearby? Would the snake be constantly on the lookout for food if he could smell the hamster? Perhaps they would just get used to it but personally I wouldn't want to keep them in the same room but other people may have different opinions on the subject. |

I don't think it's a great idea, honestly. Probably the snake would be smelling the rodent and would become feisty... |

when I had a hamster he lived in a different room, I personally would keep them in differnt rooms just to ensure neither can smell the other. |

I know plenty of people that keep hamsters and mice in the same room as they're snakes just make sure as everyone has said you wash your hands between handling both of them |

I have my hamster and snake in same room just as I have to currently! When I move soon I will probs keep separate. They don't seem bothered though but snakey is still very young. They never see each other and I always wash hands and sanitizer between handlings. I reckon they can sense/ smell each other but neither seems negatively affected/ stressed by this. However I would prefer to keep deprecate and will when I move just so I can be 100% sure both are as comfortable as possible and to avoid any nasty escapee incidents :/
Hope this helps Xx |

No reason why you can't as long as you're sensible about it. I've got lots of pets, as you can see from my signature, and they all live in harmony. Let us know when you get your snake and if there's anything we can help with please ask! |

I would not recommend it as we have had a spot of rodent problem's with the local field mice getting out of the wet/cold and Houdini has been going mental especially when i get him out. We have a reasonable size lounge and he constantly wants to get to the other end where "I believe" he can smell where they were...

I keep my two female mice and their 11 odd young in my room and there is no ill effect. If anything, my corn has become even more receptive to food than before, though I'm not sure if this is possible.. she is very food orientated! |
