Hi guys.
Apologies if mentioned elsewhere, but I can't seem to find any info on these on here.
I've been offered (free to collect) a Monkfield Terrarium, similar to the example in this link, http://www.bluelizardreptiles.co.uk/housing/vivariums/5060127652297. My daughters young corn could do with being in a larger viv sometime soon and I was wondering if this would be ok as an interim.
Although the blurb in the link mentions corns, I can't help but think the overall height is a bit shallow. I already have a 36" viv flat-packed (bought at the right price, so in storage), for when needed, but would be interested in opinions of this Monkfield model.

| This is basically the same as mine, it is a great viv for young corns so ive heard! However ill be upgrading soon once saved enough for bigger viv . |

A lot of people use monkfields for a while whilst their corn is growing. A general rule of thumb is that a corn snake should be no longer than length plus depth of the viv added together. Depending on how large your daughter's corn snake is, it may or may not be suitable 
Personally, I choose not to house my snakes in 'midway' sizes. My hatchlings will progress from a lock lid tub with air holes added, to a faunarium to their adult 3 foot viv. I did that with Apollo and he was absolutely fine with all the hiding places I provided for him, in fact he seemed to love the extra room! Although some corn snakes can be stressed by too much space apparently. |

| We've got the 24" monkfield for Ruby, she's been in it since we got her at 6 weeks old and she's 6 months now. It'll do her for a while yet and it's a really good design. The only negative is the height but that isn't an issue for Ruby yet so, depending how big your snake is and which model you're being offered, and it's free......... |

Thanks all.
I can't quite think of the age (can't remember how old when she got her), but approx 45-50cm in length. She's currently in an Exo Terra glass viv, 30cm square base, which she seems happy in at the mo but as we'd been offered this Monkfield, thought it worth the query. We're aware of the guide on size of length plus depth ratio for housing.
The Monkfield is the 24" model, but obviously much lower than the glass viv; although she's not a climber. It's fairly new, my relative kept a few ground dwelling geckos in it (I'm hopeless with breeds), but ill health has taken him over. It believe the model which has a specific section so you can slide the heat mat into the base, as opposed to it being inside the viv under the substrate.
We've read conflicting issues regarding snakes stressing out if the viv is too large a space, hence the 36" viv still flat-packed. |

i would also like to add that if it is a hatchling or young adult i was given some good advice by a pet shop in Maltby called NatureWorld their reptile specialist has 46 snakes in total at home!
he said he doesn't like to give branches or plants (or any high ornament) until they are older because they can fall at young ages and this may cause regurge etc... so monkfield design can sort of stop that happening

| That's a good point Nicking93. To be fair, Delia's bit of fake plant stuff is horizontal along the back, more for ground coverage/decor/extra hiding and I don't recall her having clambered on it, but you make a valid point none-the-less. |

I've got one for my leopard gecko which suits her fine but personally I wouldn't use one for a snake.
My snakes all like to climb and stretch upwards and they can't do that in a Monkfield. Mine you if it's a freebie you could always research another sort of pet!! |
