Okay, this may seem like a silly question. I've not owned an adult corn snake before and I want to get it right.

Obviously I will adjust feeding based on how fat she is once I've got into the swing of things with her but I'm thinking about my next order of frozen mice and what sizes/how many I need.

My new normal female cornsnake is a good weight, perhaps a teeny tiny bit on the squishy side if anything but I'm happy with her weight as it is. I plan on breeding her in 2014 (brumating in dec 2013) assuming all is well with her health and my male is big enough to handle it.

The research I have done suggests feeding adult cornsnakes 1 mouse weighing 20-30g every 5-14 days, depending on whether they are being used for breeding etc. This is a medium mouse or a smaller large from my suppliers. I've heard that getting a bump from each meal is less important in adult corn snakes, is this true?

I was thinking maybe a medium or a large every other week? Does that sound like a reasonable base to start her feeding on? I will adjust it based on how she does on it, either feeding more or less if I need to, and feeding more building up to brumation next year.

What do you feed your adult corn snakes and how often?

Aaah right. I think the seller used to feed her 1 small and a medium or two smalls, or one large every 7-14 days. He said he likes to mix it up a bit. I guess a small and a medium would be a jumbo? I would rather feed one item where possible but for the first couple of feeds I might have to try two smalls because I don't have anything bigger yet.

1 medium every week, or 1 large every 10-14 days should be fine to maintain weight.

How much does she weigh?

Thanks, I've not weighed her yet but the guy I bought her from weighed her before I went to pick her up and said she was 333g. I will be weighing and measuring her length once she's had time to settle in as she doesn't seem that little to me, possibly because all mine are young and still little but the seller said he was surprised at how little she weighed.

It isn't just a case of how much she weighs. It also depends on how active she is and her metabolic rate.
All mine are fed an x-large mouse every week. They are mostly an active lot and they're not fat. They fit into the 'just right' catagory of being the loaf of bread shape!
If I were taking on a new snake I would be feeding once a week and monitoring how the snake is growing. Then adjust if needs be.

I feed mine a mixture. Sometimes they get a jumbo or a large or maybe a medium or even a small mouse and sometimes a rat fluff or maybe a rat weaner. They never know whats coming in on the end of the tongs. Or when to expect it, sometimes 7 days or 14 days maybe 21 days. Though I always feed on a thursday, they have'nt sussed that yet though, lol. Keeps them guessing and I soon realise which is their favourite meal.

I like the idea of mixing it up a bit, plus it'll help use up the smalls a bit.

Apollo generally eats every 7-14 days, just about to go up to smalls but he's very very very lazy and seems to put weight on just thinking about eating, haha. I guess I'll find out what my normal female is like with time.

I'll order enough mice for one large a week just in case then. They'll last a long time in my freezer because I vacuum pack them to keep them fresh
