So... I sold one of my hatchlings this year to a family. They already kept reptiles in the past (bearded dragons) and I sent them a whole bunch of information on how to take care of corns. They sent me a picture back of their viv and everything looked in perfect shape.

Now, I randomly got a message from one of them on facebook saying "he eats every 2 days" (without any "hello" or anything). He hasn't replied to my messages so far, and I wonder what to do. If they can't even follow a simple instruction as for how often to feed a hatchling, then what else are they doing with my little baby snake? What can I do besides messaging him? :(

-very worried-

Sadly I think there's not much more you can do besides communicating with him. If I were you I'd keep emailing him, and probably would go pay a visit if I knew their address. Maybe some sort of pedagogical explanation would help them focus... Super polite, but showing somehow that you are worried, and explaining a snake's biorythm. Like: Snakes for Dummies. 'Cuz seriously, they are feeding that poor snake just as if they were going to eat it for Christmas. I totally understand your worry!

Sadly, I don't have their physical address. I talked to the guy and he appears to not believe me when I say that he shouldn't feed the snake whenever it "looks hungry"... Unless he comes around I'll just try and get my snake back, I'll not be part of him killing my snake >.<

-nods- I'll keep a close eye on him in the next few days and try to get some more communication going. I really hope the little guy is okay :(

Unfortunately this is one of the risks of breeding then selling the hatchlings. You can never be sure just what is going to happen to the hatchlings or any other animals that are bred from then the off spring sold. Anyone can send you a picture of a nice set up but that doesn't mean that's where the snake is going to live. Just as someone can a sell a rabbit and have a picture of lovely big hutch and run attached to it sent to them, doesn't mean that's where the rabbit is going to live. Infact you can even deliver the animals in person but what happens to that animal when you leave, you just don't know. I'm sorry to sound negative but that's the perils of breeding you can never be sure whats going to happen to that animal you have just help create and sold.

I'm well aware of the risks of selling animals, that's why I tend to keep in close contact with the people I sell them to. I like seeing pictures of what my babies grow up to look like. No, I can't be certain that all the information or pictures they send me are real, unedited or a good representation of the truth, but I still feel it's better than not staying in touch at all. When these people came to pick up my snake, talking to them convinced me that they really love their animals and would take good care of them. Feeding the poor thing every 2 days was something they did because they cared for the snake (he looked hungry), even if what they did has the potential of harming them. I'll try to educate them further, and if they don't listen I'll have to take further action.
