Hi
Jasper the baby cornsnake managed to escape his Viv over a week ago. I have laid down bottle traps and mice and boxes for him to hide in....but no luck.
How long can he live without access to water? I am worried that he has probably died.
My far is that he is stuck in our Sofa. The only way to check though is to cut the lining in the bottom of the Sofa, which is a last resort due to how much the Sofa's cost :(
We have a decent sized 4 bed house, and he is a very small and think Snake..he could be any where by now. I hunt for him each night after work but I am beginning to give up.

I should think he'd be able to last a good couple of weeks without water, at least.
Maybe put out a couple of bowls of water? If you put flour around them (unless you have carpet!) you may be able to see which he has visited!
Since its getting colder too, it might be worth putting a heatmat or similar on the floor with a hide on top and see if the heat attracts him.
Dont lose hope!
I've had plenty of my snakes go off adventuring and so far everyone has returned to me.
Most recently was a little three week old hatching... he was gone for two months and then turned up out of the blue, still looking lovely and healthy!  |

Thanks for the post!
If he has crawled into the sofa there isnt an easy way out...it drops down into a big gap.
I cant leave water/mats down all the time as I have a 1 year old baby who thinks everything is a toy. With any luck he will locate the snake :) |

My yearling escaped twice in quick succession. First time I found him late after I'd stayed up programming into the wee hours and he was on the shampoo bottles while I was brushing my teeth. While he was free he'd managed to find a mouse and came back to us with a very full belly.
The second time I was grabbing something from the airing cupboard (which is adjacent to the bathroom and has a gap in the wall between) and noticed him coiled around the top of the water heater deep in blue.
The survival instincts remain intact and you'll most likely find your somewhere safe and well. They've been found in computer cases wrapped around the heatsink, in beds, behind tv's, fridges, freezers and cookers.
Staying up one night in the quiet will probably prove your best bet to actively finding yours, although it seems to be more down to luck than device when they're found.
It's also worth checking with your neighbours, and letting them know. Not only will they know who to contact if your snake should show up on someone else's toilet seat, they'll know it's not dangerous and won't do anything rash.
