I know like us you are having problems with Hero going off his food. I have followed the breeders advice to put Stevie into a small 12ltr tub and to up her temps. We have used a 40w normal household bulb on a dimming stat. Her cool side is now at 28c-29c warm side is 30c and her hot spot is at 33c-34c provided by a statted heat mat. We upped the temps a couple of days ago and I have just offered her something and she ate amongst all the hissing, upping her temps have made her more grumpy it would seem lol. He told me offer something smaller than she was use to eating so gave her a small pinky which she ate and then a small fuzzy. Just though this may be of help to you.

I did start to wonder if its the temps I have put a lamp on near him which has brought the temp up and covered more if the floor with his mat. I will try getting a higher watt bulb and up the hot end but a degree it two. This has seen to work for a couple of people. :) I will let you know how it goes x

Well he didn't feed on Monday. And he is in a proper mood! I'm going to set him up in a little rub this week. I think it's party that he thinks he can escape? As j had an issue with the divide and he got through. This was back the week before he missed. Maybe if he is in a rub he won't feel like he can escape. *rolls eyes* stupid hoggie lol x

I know what you mean our hoggie seems to think that as soon as the lid of her tub is opened she can get out and thats her main intention sod the mouse. I now have to just ease the corner up poke the mouse in with some long feeding tongs and wriggle it a bit. She still wants to get out of the tub but then she spots the mouse and takes it. I am pretty sure that if I took the lid all the way off she would not eat. I don't how big the enclosure is that Hero is in but Stevies tub is only 12" x 10" so quite small for her. I have been advised to keep her in this though until she is eating well for several weeks and only then move her up to one only slightly bigger. Maybe Heros house is a little to big.

He's in half a 18" monfield. He weighs 44g and has only gone from 45g, I'd say he's about 11.5 inches long. How does that sound size wise?

Well Stevie is about 18" long and weighs just over 100g and is 10 months old. It does make me wonder whether Hero needs a lot smaller house. They can have a delayed reaction apparently to large spaces. Not large to us obviously but it is to them. If moving him into a smaller house doesn't help I can email you over the email address of James if you like so you could have a chat with him about Hero. He really has been extremely helpful.

Is the white thermometer that says 21.9c the ambient temperature? If he still does not eat you are going to need to get that higher I think. Stevies coolest temperature is at 28c. He certainly looks like he has a look of relief on his face bless him.

At night the light goes off at 10pm. The ambient temps drop to 22c-23c and the heat mat keeps her spot at 33c-34c. The light comes back on at 6am.

I thought that the max over the heat mat should be 27 - 29c and for the cool end it was ok to be anything so long as the "hot" end stayed beyween those temps. Have I got it wrong? I'm very new to this and have to say they always feel cool when I first pick them up!! Worried now.

Oh dear. Is the temperature 27c all over the tub or is just reading that directly under the light area? One side of Stevies tub is 28c-28.9c this is furthest away from the light. Directly under the light it reads 30c-31c and directly on top of the heat mat it reads 33c-34c. I wonder if the temperatures are still a little low for him. I have your email address, I will email over James' email address for him in case you want to contact him. He is very experienced and very helpful.
