Well.. George was likely hiding behind the background because it was a small tight space. He looks like he'd still fit in 2 cupped hands and both of those hides are much bigger than that.
Monster is fond of an old tube sock with a loo roll in the top of it, he curls up in the stretchy part of the toe.
Kitty hangs out in a chocolate box that is just about '1 Kitty' tall and small enough he can just turn around in and one end of a kitchen roll tube.
IMO you should look for smaller hides.

so glad you found george and all sorted in the end :). Rubi likes to go behind the background alot. I was going to glue but decided not to worry in the end as was told would stop when got bigger. Plus she can still get in from the vent hoes ive cut in it anyways.
Like Thorne Walker said, maybe a small size hide would make George feel more secure; they like to feel the cave walls close to them apparently. Now he can't hide behind the backround he will probably appreciate a subsitutive tiny hide :)

If you have a bigger hide, you could also scrunch up newspaper into tight balls to make it smaller, did that with Kellogs at first till she got bigger, was in it all the time
Thanks all for the advice, here is the new hide I've made. I had to take it out again though as a little of the paint was not dry and got onto George. Poor thing had to have a bath.
