Hi,
I've had my first corn for about 3 months now, have been handling regularly and he seems to be calmer. I was just wondering how tame people get their snakes? Obviously they will never answer to their name! But how responsive can they be? will they come out from their hide and come to the door if you open the viv? sit and watch TV with you? Just wondering what I might have to look forward to as Basil grows up!

You can expect lovely soothing hand massages as he glides in and out of your fingers.
You can expect him to slither up and down sleeves.
I've got one that finds his way inside my tops and then he coils up and sleeps on my tummy!
It depends on your snake really, some become more tame than others. The more time you spend with him the tamer he is likely to get. 
However snakes are basically wild creatures and nothing will change natural behaviour.

I only got two, and my nephew has one corn snake, so can really only comment on 3... My Bazil only just tolerates handling. She was really shy, fast, and nervous as a baby, and she still is, just a bit slower, but generally runs at the first site of me, and will hold onto things if I try to take her out. Once out, she's ok, but never really 100% chilled, always gripping hard, and at first chance going back to her viv, she will.
Little T is more adventurous, doesn't mind coming out during the day, and when roaming in the evening, will, after a while, climb onto my hand and come out of viv voluntarily. Also, if I give him a choice whether to go back in viv, or stay out , he'll choose to stay out.
My nephew's corn roams even during the day, is completely tame, and seems to want to come out faun. Always was, even as tiny hatchie.
So I think it's not all just down to handling and you, it's also down to the snakes personality. My 2 get exactly the same treatment, but are completely different.

| My two young girls Eve and Barl will just drap themselves over you what i can only assume is a comfy position for them and stay there lol other snakes of mine will keep their tail wrapped around some part of me at all times and only move as much as they can without unwrapping but i also have some proper fidgets too lol Eddie wont stay still for love nor money when hes out i consider him to be a "typical" corn |

Certain species have reputations...
I got a russian ratsnake because of the intelligence and curiosity that was described as typical...
So far he's the snake that lounges out in the open, will mostly come out of his own choosing (when given the option) and will party instead of going home (again when given the option)
I'm just starting to expose him to walking around the house wrapped around my wrist/arm and he seams to be ok with it. Sometimes he tries to 'get off' if I grab something but mostly he hangs out and enjoys the ride.
Kitty is 'docile' but I have to dig him up pretty much most times if I want to interact with him, usually I wait for him to curl up in a kitchen roll tube and pick the whole thing up. The 'Hunh what' vibe he puts off when I scoot him into my hand is very endearing.  |

There is definitely a lot of variation. My five are all completely different.
I would say with regards to handling Apollo is the 'tamest' in that he sits quite happily on whoever is holding him, sometimes investigating them slowly and looking for somewhere warm and comfy to be. You can touch him anywhere without warning him (even the top of his head!) and he doesn't flinch so I assume he isn't bothered by any of it. However he is shy in his viv and if he is slithering around when I walk in the room I just see a tail heading for the nearest hide!
Aphrodite is the most confident in her faun and if I walk past she will actually stick her head out to find out what is going on (unless she's been fed the day before, then she's busy digesting). She's one of those snakes that thinks she can fly when you're handling her though so she's not 'tame' in that regard. 
Andromeda is reasonably confident in her RUB and although she seems to freeze for a moment when I pick her up, she loosens up and calms down fast. She is still very little and quite young though so I think she'll be a fantastically cuddly snake when she's older.
Titan is like Apollo in that he is shy in his RUB, but he is okay when he's out.
Aurora is just a superstar. She moves fast both in her RUB or being handled, but not in that she's trying to get away, more that she's just very very nosy. I'm certain that Aurora recognises my scent because if she is being handled by someone and she has the option of moving onto me she always chooses to do so, but if I was handling her she wouldn't choose to move to somebody else. She might investigate them a bit but keep the bulk of her body on me whilst doing so.
I'm looking forward to seeing how all my snakes change as they grow up and mature too. I hope they continue to be calm and not mind being handled as I love having them out and I think they enjoy it too. Putting them back into their vivs is the hard bit as if they are given a choice they will always choose to stay out unless they have been fed. |

again my two are compleatly different charaters, 8 was well handled from hatching and is really tame to handle, he's quite happy to sit up your sleave and not budge, if some one comes to see the boys its usually him they hold as he's so chilled. in the viv though he spends most of his time hide away unless its feed time!
Jinx on the other hand is always out and about unless he's shedding or been fed. if theres movement in the room he's straight out to see whats going on. Handling wise he's calmed down alot but still has his moments where he shoots off at speed, he's really inquisitve too, although friends aren't quite sure about holding him and he usually just heads straight back to me. |

The big corna and king stick their head out as soon as I open up the viv doors, others slither away.
