My friend wants a baby corn, from me hopefully, but for bedding she wants to use this:

It's called something like softwood mulch? Not too sure, it doesn't have a proper brand name. It comes in pellet form, and this is after adding water. He uses it for all his horses and they have lots to spare.

Thank ya

Hmm... Not much of an expert I suppose depends on what woods are mixed in. No mean to cause offence but this stuff looks terribly uncomfy and I couldn't imagine it being very much appreciated by the snake. But it's only an opinion.

Could be potentially lethal. The major softwood used in this country is pine which is deadly to corns so for the small cost involved I would stick to something that is known to be safe to use.

I would say not a good plan. Although it would dry out after being expanded from pellet form, it would still be quite damp for a while and high humidity is not a great plan for a corn snake. Also as others said, the chances are quite high there could be pine included in it.

That pretty much covers my opinion on it. I do (and lots do) use horse bedding though. The one I use is megazorb, its paper pulp, the stuff they form egg boxes out of. Smells lovely, really absorbent and best of all, really cheap.

I use this company, they deliver it anywhere and did I mention its cheap.

I use hrse bedding, Auboise and Megazorb bit they have no added nasties in it... and although your ment to spray horse bedding for horses, you don't for snakes :p Auboise gives instructions to spray for horses but I hope no-one ever does with their snakes o.o;;

And megazorb looks like this. If you have sensitive snakes it can make them sneeze and wheeze a bit lol.

smells like egg boxes :p I got some weird stuff in my bag tough, like very hard eggboard box ruler and protractor XD

A very special super, duper thanks for K :3

Yes Megazorb is :) Only substrate I have used that allows furry mould to grow on poops in a day! But that only happened with my small rubs, my vivs were fine. I would say megazorb is as messy in my expeience, easily for the hoover to suck up if you have carpet though but it is very light weight stuff!
