Hi everyone, I've been debating buying a corn snake for a little while now and have done lots of research/ bought a good book etc and feel like I've learnt so much already but also finding out new stuff every day.

However in terms of actually acquiring one I'm still unsure. The closest shop I have to my location (Longbridge, West Midlands) is Birmingham Reptile and Pets over in Erdington and the site they have seems professional (http://www.reptile-specialist.co.uk/) but was really just wondering if anyone else had visited them and what they thought, and also whether they have hatchlings available.

Other options could be getting one online, even 888Reptiles do a special offer of a complete setup with a Carolina CB11 but I don't like the idea of not seeing it in person plus if CB11 means it's a year old already it would probably out grow the Faun too quickly.

If anyone knows of any new options for Birmingham sellers It'd be much appreciated.

Thanks, Carl.

P.S Sorry if in wrong section

I can point you in the direction of a breeder in Birmingham called Punky Corns.

I have personally bought from her so would be more than happy to vouch for her and the great after service :-)

Hi Dudeskin,

I have visited said shop - it wasn't the easiest to find, much smaller than I was expecting. Staff I spoke to were pleasant and answered my questions, but can't add anymore.
There is a reptile shop in Redditch (Redditch Reptiles), also one in Northfield (The Cove) and Weoley Castle (Barking Mad) all sell snakes and I would imagine will have hatchlings in.
One of mine came from one of these, the only thing I will say is that as alot of shops I was not offered a Thermostat with my set up - a very important part of the set up as all will tell you on here.
My other came from an add on Preloved - went to visit, handle parents and hatchies.
Hope this helps and well done for doing research before acquiring a snake

thats where i went for my first corn snake , and i havent had the best experience if im honest . The first corn i had , had to go back due to stomach problems and not eating . The second problem was they sold us a small hatching and a 3 foot viv and gave us totally wrong set up advice (got pointed in the right direction by the good guys on here) and thirdly , which at the time i didnt understand but having kept snakes longer haltosis (spelling ?) mites were being used , now i kno that they are used to treat mites .

If you search in my posting history there should be threads about the problem i had . Here is the pic of the set up i used following their instructions :

As you can see , this isnt right at all , and as i "believed" they knew everything being a specialist shop , i had followed their sheet , and instructions to put the box i had purchsed the snake in , straight into the viv with no probs inside the box , the stat mat in totally the wrong place etc .

Mods this is in no way slating i hope , i just feel there are better places to go . somewhere called Prestwood avaries is brilliant and soon my set up consisted of this :

By all means go and have a look , but dont fall into the trap of them supposedly selling you "everything you will ever need"

It really does depend on the shop, go and have a look and ask some questions.
If you are after a snake online Blue Lizard reptiles is very good. Give them a ring, they are very friendly and helpful. My friend recently got a lovely friendly black mexican king snake from them :) They will even send you individual photos of several snakes so you can pick.

Thanks very much for all the great advice guys.

@Laws - Cheers for that post, will defo give them a miss.

@viraleye - Had a look at her page and defo looks good so will certainly inquire further.

@Ell - Will check it out but probably won't buy as ideally want to see it in person to check it's health.

@Blackcat - Cheers for that list of shops, they'll certainly help with getting supplies, and the Preloved from early views looks a good choice for acquiring one.
