My hognose had been off his food for a few weeks but I'm told by absolutely everyone that it's nothing to worry about. He ate a small mouse 7 days ago.

He poo'd a few days later.

The last few days when I've been handling him, I've noticed he still looks quite full. I've had a feel and there's no food lumps in him or anything and I've noticed that when I'm handling him, he sounds hollow.

I know it sounds weird but I'd tapped his belly and it definitely sounds hollow as though he's filled with air.

When I've been handling him he's occasionally made a noise like he's puffing out some air. I know it's not a his as he's a feisty little thing and he hisses quite regularly, this sound is different. It's as if when I've moved him some air has managed to escape out his mouth/nose.

Has anyone got any suggestions? I've googled this endlessly but got nowhere :(

Sounds silly, sorta...but would they puff up like a puffer fish, like a cat turning sideways etc if they felt threatened?

Hi Rossle,

Hoggies are particularly known for a bit of puffing and flattening from time to time. They're very cute when they get a little agitated! :D

Yeah, I'm used to him puffing up and hissing when he's in a bad mood! Totally adorable cos he's too small to be frightening lol

Only thing is he's all full of air when he's in a calm and friendly mood too, not just when he's angry
