Wasn't sure where to post this so opted for the general section
I don't have mites and luckily have no experience of them but want to 'pick' the brains of the experts and keepers of other exotic pets.
I have the possibility of working in a lab which cultures fruit flies (Drosophila), these are prone to mite infestations, they think these to be dust mites. My question is: would these mites be a risk to my snakes if I inadvertantly managed to transport them home? Part of me thinks that in a carpeted home dust mites could already be present. Any input/ideas are appreciated. Thanks in advance
AFAIK they are different in their diet. Dust mites eat your dead skin which is one of the main constituents of household dust. The mites which affect snakes are blood feeders.
I'd say there was little or no risk to the health of the snakes and agree that they are probably present in every home anyway.
