Oh dear. Too many people just don't understand snakes as pets.

I bet your son loves having snakes in the house

its because of my son i have snakes (yes i am blaming a 5 year old, ahem), he adores the snakes and is so responsible with them, but according to his father, that raises questions about my parenting skills...go figure, huh!

Try and keep a straight face as you tell them the snakes are allowed to roam the house free and you keep waking up and finding them laying next to you/your son. (e.g. the ol' snake sizing you up to eat you routine)

Kids are fearless, have you seen kids/videos of kids at a meet the reptile visit? They all want to touch the reptile, hold it, learn about it and generally think it's soooo cool! I think you're enriching your sons life with what is a very easy, good pet to have.

thanks for that a2c7. my son loves the snakes and has no fear, too young to have learnt the typical snake phobia, thankfully.

As for the sizing us up, i know i'm ickle, but i dont think i'm small enough for my hatchie and as daft as the ex is, i dont even think he would believe that, lol

on dear another misinformed person! it makes me chuckle how no one ever realy comments about dogs as pets, which are capable of doing a lot more damage than a snake(apart from people who hate all animals) but having snakes means that all the childern in the neighbourhood are gona get eaten!!

I personally think all children should have the chance to keep/learn about different non human creatures as it will show them the care, attention responsibility needed to keep any sort of pet and can only improve their minds.

exactly, thats what i think, that having a pet teaches the responsibilty, just this morning my son was yelling at me that is was feeding day and i had to get mice out!
i would rather take my chances with a snake than a furry - more chance of my son being bitten if we had a dog or hamster!

pftt being normal is boring anyway, i tried it after 10mins i was bored ha... but na in all seriousness im no parent but surely it would be a good thing, letting your son have a open mind about exotic animals and teaching him responability and stuffs? men eh? :p

It is a well known fact that corn snakes snack on 5 year old boys all the time, they also go flying around biting people with their poison.

Next time anyone says anything just do what I do. Advise them calmly and clearly to mind their own bloody business. lol.

I have told my Grandchildren 3 and 2 not to annoy the dogs , cat or parrot as they could get bitten or scratched, maybe sworn at if parrot having an off day.Thats not because my dogs , cat or parrot are vicious or aggresive in any way but its common sense.
The girls on the other hand have been told when handling snakes (supervised) they need to be gentle or THEY could HURT the snakes.
Having a varied arry of pets opens their minds unlike the narrowminded people we often come across.
Good luck with the ex , no sod him, its for your son you have started on this snake adventure and thats all that matters.
