What is your opinion on feeding rat pups? Cornflake is on 2x fuzzies each mealtime at the moment and I cannot find any hoppers for sale near me. I got some small mice but they look a bit too big at the moment. The only thing I have seen in between fuzzies and small mice are rat pups....
They are too high in fat etc and they are addictive you might think ud only use them for a few weeks your corn will have other ideas so they are best avoided meals of multiple fuzzies arent going to do any harm at all
I dont think its that they're not good for them, more that mice are the more nutritious as a staple diet. Then again, just did a bit of research and ive found mixed reviews and someone put this:
"I'm relatively sure that there is currently no real proof that either rodent is better. It's all just opinion. Although there is one little exception that someone brought up on another forum, stating "When making the choice between say a jumbo mouse and a very young rat (both items appx the same size) the calcium argument IS valid since an adult of ANY endoskeletal species WILL have more signifcant calcium levels than a similarly sized juvenile. I.E. bitty jr rat vs big*ss adult mouse - mouse will have more calcium."
Perhaps see about ordering some hoppers online? Having said that our kingsnake, Ginn, went up to a small from two fuzzies just fine. (We just picked out the smaller smalls at first)
there is no harm in offering rats to corns, some of ours get rats when we run out of the correct sized mice. You just need to space the feding out a bit more, also we have had no problems feeding them mice then rats and back onto mice.
A varied diet will obviously have some benefits for corns too, so it'd probably be beneficial to occasionally feed rats. And chicks for that matter. Ive only tried mice and rat pups/fluffs so far, and Ive heard that chicks make the snake poop smell horrendous lol so im not sure about that.
