Hey guys and girls,
I joined only a week ago so need abit of help please. I got the snake last Tuesday and ive only held her about 2 times and only for a few seconds this is because when i do she hisses at me. Anyway she was in blue on Sunday and has shed her skin last night sometime. She is very much over due a feed its been also twos week since the last.
1) Am i allowed to feed her straight after her shed? 2) Whats is the best way to feed her ? 3) The shed in length is 2foot 3inch is that going to be the size of her? 4)How do i pick her up when she is hissing and striking at me ? 5) Do i have to cut the head of the mice at all ? 6) Do i need to have her in a completely different RUB to feed her with a paper towel down ?
If you can answer any of these for me would me really helpful thanks :)
P.S pictures are on the way but haven't had the right time to take some... |

right here we go
1)I always feed mine after the shed if he wants it he will take it, so not a problem. 2) this one will answer 2 and 6. there two ways of feeding that are commonly used first is to put the snake in a seperate rub with the food item and leave them to it, second is use feeding tongs and encourage the snake to strike at the food item. i always put mine in seperate rub saves them eating wood chippings or becoming to protective of their viv. 3) that will be the current size of her minus 10% she will continue to grow 4) did you leave the snake for a full 7 days before handling ??? this is recommended so they can settle and carry a sock (clean) or glove around with you for a day and put that in there so they can get use to your scent works for most people. Then just be confident she will be ok once out if she does bite you will hardly notice it. 5) no not need to cut the heads of if she doesnt want them maybe burst them a little but you dont have to do this every time....
hope this helps 5) |

It might be worth doing the 7 days from now, as you need to leave her 48-72 hours to digest anyway. I'd try the sock with your scent on it as cobweb suggested, will let her get used to you and her new home. Next week give her a short handle then feed, perhaps feed 2 x fuzzies if one doesn't leave a bump, wait until she's eaten the first one before offering the second |

As for the size of the snake - the shed can be up to 33% bigger than the snake itself, because the skin in between the scales also sheds. |
