hello,
I had beebee in a 2ft viv but i think its freaked her a bit, plus as her head is so small I was worried about her slipping in between the glass, so ive been and got a faun instead.

Ive set it all up and got the heat mat and the thermostat probe under it and the temp probe inside on the warm bit, problem is I cant get the temp any higher inside the faun then 25.5. The thermostat is turned all the way up and the heat mat is hot but its just not transferring through. Ive put a bit of carpet underneath overnight to see if that worked but its not made any difference.

any other ideas?? can you put heat mats inside the faunarium?

thanks.

What sort of faun is it, sometimes they have little feet that stop the mat making good contact with base.

yes it does have feet that raise it maybe a centimetre off the mat. I thought you wasnt supposed to have the mat directly on the plastic though?

Depends on the mat, most are contact heaters so have to be touching what ever it is you want to heat.

My faun is like that. I stuck the heatmat to the underside of it because I had the same problem. Some people put polystyrene under the mat and I think some try to put it around the base of the faun so that there is a little air pocket underneath which gets heated that heats the viv. It seemed simpler to me to just stick it to the bottom. The plastic is unlikely to be damaged if the mat is on a stat anyway.

I use tape to secure the mat to the bottom of the faun, stat probe in the area under the mat and faun , and the thermometer probe in the faun.

stat probe is on the mat underneath the faun and temp probe is in the faun. Im going to tape it to the underside of the faun like Dan said. I didnt know you could do that,I always presumed there had to be a space between the mat and the faun
