Hi I need help!

I've had 2 corn snakes now for approx 7 weeks now......

they were both housed together in the shop so I kept them together...

had no problems at all with them at all thinking they were both males so kept a close eye on them just incase.....

the shop i had them from hadnt seen that the light coloured one had started the shedding process.....

so shedding wasnt as smooth going as it should have been and it was scratching at its skin eventually it managed to get it all off....

a week later the darker one started to shed had no problems at all with this one......

then 1 night near the middle of april just after they had both been fed the started acting very strange

they were both very active chasing each other around the viv then when they rested the both started twitching then they both went into the hide

thinking nothing of it i checked on them before i went to bed they both were fine and sleeping so left it at that and thought nothing of it

would 2 males act like that?????

then someone had said that it sounded they were doing the breeding process so i started to read up the breeding process

ive read that the females shed before releasing the eggs 2 days ago she went very grey in colour and is in the shedding process again

how long after the skin being shed would she release the eggs?

i cant see any visual signs at the minute that there are any eggs in the snake but i dont really know what im looking for??????

is it safe to handle the snake whilst its shedding or even carrying eggs ive tried research but i find that personal experience is usually better

ive been and got a box today and some moss and vermiculite as it says in a book to get just incase

when should i put this in the viv?

i will need alot of help during the process from eggs to sale of baby corns and any help is much appreciated

the one that i would say is the male has a smaller head than the other one and is staying well away from "her"

i was going to get them sexed at a reptile shop this week to be sure they were both male im guessing that i may not have to now

if it is a she and she does lay eggs you don't have to incubate them, you can freeze them first then chuck them out. If you can get a rub, i use one of those with the blue handles as they act like a lock, they're cheap enough, she might be getting stressed with the other snake in there and if she is gravid could prevent her from laying the eggs.

Hope everything goes ok with her

eggs are normaly laid between 7 and 14 days after the female has shed. You need to put the laying box in the viv now so she can get used to it

well you need to get prepaired quickly.

firstly seperate then adults

i would say that if she is gravid and she has had her pre lay shed, she should be showing? i think its an average of 10 - 16 days from the shed to laying.

people use both kinds,i'm using 2 herp nursery 2's at the moment. you can make 1 though but you will also need a mat stat to control the heat mat and a digital thermometer with a probe. home made incubators can work just aswell.

thank you kev

ive just had "her" out for a minute just to see if i can feel anything as she has run through my hands i thought i could feel something but am not positive there arent any visual signs as yet but she is still shedding so maybe after she has shed???????

could it be a coinsidence that the snake has shed as a normal shed and isnt a female after all

but would they do the twitching and chasing each other if they were males?

i didn't realise she was still shedding, leave her until she has finished shedding. one of my females laid 17 eggs at the end of january but even a few days before she laid i couldn't feel anything and she didn't look swollen like most females do. to be honest unless you've seen them locked together you can't be 100% sure. i'd put a lay box in the viv tomorrow to be on the safe side and as the days pass she should spend more and more time in there

cool, you need to get am incubator set up ready now.

you can buy a shop bought one, but if you go to a local green grocer you can pic up a poly bix and lid
you need a heat mat
stat
vermiculate
take away boxes

and then as soon as the eggs are laid enough set ups for the amount of eggs.

and be prepaud for anything x

Don't want to confuse things but if the shop said they were both males it is possible. You didn't actually see them lock did you? (wrap around each other usually with a clear view of the males jiggley bits entering the female!)

and i didnt see them but would they behave like that if they were both males and they did go straight into the hide so they could have done it in there????
