Hi all. Today Tobasco has refused food; the same as last week. I cant remember the last time I have managed to feed him for a month, every week. A couple of weeks ago he ate a jumbo mouse, however it was scented with a chick as he refuses to eat a plain jumbo. Do you know of something else that i could use to scent the mouse

Thanks all. Meg xx

How many weeks has he not eaten for. In guessing he's a adult if he's had a jumbo previously

do you keep feeding records?? If not i would start now so you can keep an accurate account of when he last fed, sometimes what can seem like a month is only 3 weeks.

other methods you could try to entice your snake to feed are -
try downsizing the prey item
try heating up prey item (hair dryer is good, hot water not boiling, radiator)
marmite or tuna brine
try a rat of simular size to normal food item
some people swear by taking there snake for a car ride, something to do with the vibrations getting them going?
also you could try putting your snake and prey item in a small rub/tub/box and check every now again making sure it in a quite room, the theory is the only way to get rid of the prey is to eat it.- this has worked for me on a few occasions

I'm guessing with you attempting to feed him jumbos weekly he is a very big corn snake. if not maybe he just doesn't need to eat so much so often and is taking a break. Every so often my Royal will take a few weeks off feeding, its not that anything is wrong or anything has changed, he just chooses to not eat. How big is your corn?

I would say a weekly jumbo is too much food for even the biggest of cornsnakes so a drop in size and frequency is a good idea, not only to prevent it getting fat but also with longer between feeds it may make him more likely to be opportunistic when food is there and not so picky.

I was basically gonna say what lotabob said. If you are feeding a jumbo every week its too much for the snake. Its probably not eating cos you are over feeding it if that is the case.

Definitely need to cut back a bit on the amount of food! Also, if he is still refusing someone else on here who couldn't get hold of a chick thigh wrapped their pinky in some chicken skin (as you get on chicken breasts from the supermarket) for a while and warmed it up a bit then unwrapped it to feed and that worked for them.

Oh okay, thanks all. I know this sounds of and annoying but i doubt i have being over feeding him for a while. HTis is cause it was the mating season that stopped him eating. Shall i try him on a jumbo one week and a medium the next? Thank you all so so much for your help.

p,s i do keep a feeding diary :)
