Hi, im new to this and hope ive posted in the right section. We are due to get our first corn snake in 3 days, and am in the middle of setting up the tank.. we have purchased a complete set up from the pet shop, and ive got a couple of questions please.
We have a wooden tank with sliding glass doors, and the problem we have is where do we fit the 40w daylight lamp, as the tank is all wooden, and i gather we need a guard, but we were not supplied with one, i cant find one anywhere. called the pet shop and they said that they cut a hole in the top of their tank, put chicken wire over it and had the lamp on the outside of the tank. but surely the snake can get out of the tank????
I need to get this set up ready for collection.
we have a heat mat, and a 14w uvb bulb...
any advice is needed please. thank u.. xxx |

just chuck the lamp, they do not need it. as long as your mat cover 1/3 - 1/2 of the floor space and has a stat with it then that is perfect x |

What Georgina said - we looked into lamps when we were buying but it's not actually a requirement and most cornsnake keepers don't use them. |

thank you for the advice, not needed then. getting really stressed there. Yes the heat lamp i would say does cover 1/3 of the tank,
can i also ask please, im putting this heat pad at the bottom of the tank, then covering it with aspen snake bedding, shall i put anything over that, like slate, rocks etc.
i am using strong sticky pads to secure it to the bottom..
thank u.x |

ok, get the stick pads out asap, nothing sticky inside the tank. if you feel the need to strick it down use a hot glue gun. bu a hide on top will hold it down.
you need a hide at each end
a digital thermomter
and a stat

Yes like Georgina says, you need a stat and digital thermometer. But the stat is vital |
0.1 Carolina corn-Willameana
1.0 springer spaniel- Seb
1.0 shih tzu- Charlie
0.1 black cat- Luna

^^^^^ most of us use led lighs again stuck on with glue gun to view our snakes. you can get blue which the snake cannot see so you can watch them and they still think its dark :) |

no, it ensures that the mat (which can reach over 40 degrees) stays within a safe temperature. x |
