so after nine weeks of hunger strike my bad boy finally ate a small mouse last thursday, ..and had clearly digested it pretty much the next day (when he did his first poop in 2 months) today he was out and about being sociable, but looking , well sort of hungry- its only 3 days I know, but I figured a small mouse to a 400g snake is like a ritz cracker when you really want a full-on roast dinner, so I just thought, well, an experiment to see what he does... and I offered him a biggish medium one this evening. He took all of 2 seconds to sniff it, then near took my hand off with the ferocity of the strike ! its still waaaay smaller than his usual feed size, but he should be okay for a week now, I'm thinking..? and next week I'll offer him next size up so that the week after that he'll be back to his normal large or jumbo sized dinner.
is this a reasonable plan to get him back up? (he has lost quite a bit of weight during his anorexic phase)
any thoughts from peeps who've been through the lengthy fasting of big blokey snakes, and subsequent shrunken-tummy would be greatly appreciated |
and you thought there was no such thing as a stupid question....
