When the term 'handling' is used it is meaning to have them out for a while for armchair walkies. No handling doesn't mean you can't pick them up at all when required, sometimes its just necessary, as long as you dont fuss them or squeeze the mouse bump it will be absolutely fine. its the one time I pick them up more towards the tail than the norm of the middle and as soon as you raise their body up enough to slide a hand underneath then just lift them up. Just watch out for the feeding mode though, once they are in feeding mode you might be the next course, well an attempt at it anyway though it unlikely unless its my daft boa that will try eat you just after eating.

I feed out of the viv in a little tub with kitchen roll down, and once he's eaten I leave it a while until he starts to slither around the tub a little, and when his tongue starts to flick again, then I gently lift up the sides of the kitchen roll (hence also lifting the snake), then I put that in the viv and let him slither off whenever he's ready!

i prefer feeding mine out of the viv
when i used to feed my male inside his viv he was expecting food whenever i opened the glass doors
so not to confuse between handling and meal times its better that way
(plus the guarantee that no substrate will stick to the mouse and get swallowed)

i feed sonny outside the faun, but if he's taking a while i sometimes put him back in the faun with the food on newspaper so i can leave him alone in the warm for a little while, nearly always does the trick :)
