My new viv stack is on it's way this week, just got to buy the heat mats for it. The 2 vivs are 30"x15"x15", so would I be better with 11"x11" or 17"x11" heat mats? Also, has anyone used the self adhesive mats that stick to the viv? I've seen a lot for sale, not sure they would be a good idea as my snakes can be stupid at times |

the self adhesive ones are generally for sticking to the outside/underside of glass vivs. i think the 11x11 will be between 1/4-1/3 17x11 will be closer to 1/2 base size. (sat here with eyes closed trying to picture this). might be best to get the stack built then cut some card or paper to the size of mats an see which is best but im thinking 17x11 |

I'm using 11"x 11"s in mine, set about 4" away from one side. That gives me more of a temperature gradient. |

Thanks for that. I'll wait until it arrives then and try the 17"x11" I have in the viv at the moment. Glad I asked about the self adhesive mat too now! |

11x11 in my 3ft vivs, that's about one third of the interior space, works fine. |

I did the card trick with my 4ft vivs lol! I have a 17x11 in my 3ft viv, I tried an 1x11 one and I didn't like how my large hide didn't fit all on it, it would have been fine but I just didnt like it XD |

you could always glue gun the mat to the viv but doesn't really matter is the snake gets under it does it?

I tried the 17" x 11" in my 3ft viv and found that there was not much room for the snake to move around or rest in the cool end. Now have 11" x 11" and its alot better. I have the exo terra large hide and it fits on the mat no problems.
None of my mats are sticky backed and none are glues down the heavy hides keep them in place and those that have a cardboard box as a hide often venture under the mats. As long as the stat probe can not be displaced can't see a problem with go under the mats. |

Thanks all. I've been waiting for this stack since before Christmas, can't wait to see it! I'll hang on before deciding, maybe 11" x 11" would be fine after all I've never had the snakes go under the heat mat, just one site I looked at only had the self adhesive ones in stock, so thought maybe it was a better option. Little Falco is too small for the stack yet, and I'm already having wicked thought about buying something for the spare stack viv and when Falco is big enough get another matching viv made, should have gone for a triple stack really |
