Hi all, following on from my previous post regarding buying my viv things and what heat type id use etc... Here we go :)

Id like some feedback on the stuff iv bought today please as i am going on advice from various sources as i know absolutly nothing.

sorry if images are a tad big, took them on my iphone.

heres the main stuff (iv also bought decorations and vines)

here is the "special" night and day stat :)

will this sealant be suitable for my wooden viv?

And i was about to buy some LED's but the only ones in stock at two places i went too were blue lights and i didnt want blue :( i wanted clear. So i told the supposed snake expert shop owner that i want some lighting in my viv and iv already got a heat mat so dont want a heat bulb. And he said i should have this as its low wattage and wont create a lot of heat so its suitable to be used as a light for a couple of hours a day in the evening.

all advice welcome and NEEDED! lol

All looks good, but I would take the bulb back and buy an energy saving bulb from the supermarket, that way you can have it on all day. I have a 7 watt bulb in my viv, it's on from 8am-8pm and doesn't get hot at all

sealant is sealant, it works on wood (or laminate as it will be in a vivarium). Good luck finding a good position for the stat control so it works properly.

The bulb you have is a basking bulb, even though its only 25 Watts its still going to create heat and will need statting. As above a energy saver or LED bulb will be far better and wont need a stat.

If to have an IKEA near to you these are good. I saw people on here recommend them and they do the job great.

I've got these in debbie's viv- theyre fab- practically zero heat, so no faff with stats or cages etc, and you can use from 1 to 4 of the bits, and make it as long or short as you want. fitting it was a pain though, cos the you have to fix on the housing first then slide the light unit into the housing, and the screws supplied are fiddly and a bit rubbish. I ended up gluing the housing up, then poking the lights in when the glue (sealant actua;ly) had set.
there's also another one at ikea which I got for sharon, can't remember the name but the fitting is better- I'll post a pic later on

ps- theres a thread somewhere atm about night/day stats, and the consensus seemed to be that they're not worth the extra dosh- because they respond to light levels they turn to 'night' if its cloudy and to 'day' ifyou turn on the light at night etc. praps you can get the shop to exchange/refund the difference for a basic mat stat? which will do the job you need

and you thought there was no such thing as a stupid question....

or just set both day and night to the same temp giving the same result as a normal stat :)

okay light pics--

this is the ikea 'ledberg' lightstrip in situ-

a close up of the strip- they're not as bright as my rubbish phone-camera makes them look- the light is quite nice- theyre also available in a multicoloured option, you can change it through I think 4 different colours, but that one's dearer, obviously,

and this is the other, smaller one i have in Sharon's viv- the housing is easier to fix in, and the lights face up towards the ceiling, so a really nice gentle light. also ikea, but this one has a separate power cable you have to buy to plug it in. Only in white lights I think. I had to switch it off to take the pic- (rubbish camera, I think I mentioned....)Sharon likes to sit on the bracket that fixes it to the top of the viv. You can just see her up there in this pic I think...

hth

My corn never goes out :( constantly hides! when she was a hatchling she was out and about all the time but recently just never shows her face. im hoping that will change when i get her in to her new big viv

id love a 3d background. but im worried as i have a vivexotic wooden viv so id want all three wooden sides covered and my corn likes to go toilet in corners and usually whilst im asleep. so for a good few hours before i wake up in the morning a snake poop will be piled up against the polystyrene (however you spell it) and it would either damage it or me cleaning it would damage it

if its the battery operated ones you are on about they are an actual nightmare. I used them in mine and although they are rechargable batteries I used, they didnt last long at all

ok now its starting to annoy me. can someone please inform me how in gods name you install one of those bulb holders into a viv?!

iv got a wodden vivexotic one and its the bulb holder thats in the picture in the first post. i have no clue how to install it, it says on the box "screw fitting" but then comes with no instructions, no screws and the holder has no screw holes......wtf?!

edit: ok i guess it means screw fitting for the bulb but the question still stands. how do i install this?
