Can I clarify, should a heating mat actually go in the tank, under the substrate, or outside the tank? Different websites seem to be saying different things! |

It depends on what kind of tank you have..
If you have a wooden Vivarium it needs to go on the inside, underneath the substrate, as they don't have enough power to heat through the wood.
If you have a glass exo-terra or a faunarium/RUB, then it should go on the outside, as heat transfers pretty quickly through these materials, so it's safer there |
