I don't believe I'm the only person who does this, but I had Debbie (mrs sweety-pie) on my lap tonight, she was watching telly with us and I was absently just stroking her as i usually do, like you would a cat or something, and then as i massaged up her shoulders (?) I got to her head and was stroking the top of her head and she sort of squished her head flat, and clearly was quite into it- she could have waggled away at any time, or moved her head or whatever, but she seemed quite happy to be 'petted'. She is the mellowest or our snakeys; punkin tries to get down to the floor asap when he's out, all he seems to want to do is explore the room and kind of check the perimeters..there's no way he'd sit still long enough to be tickled like Debbie does-
anybody else 'stroke' their snake, and the snake appears to enjoy the attention? or is Debbie actually a cat trapped in a snake's body....

or have i just finally gone completely wibble hatstand

and you thought there was no such thing as a stupid question....

All my snakes enjoy being stroked when they are out of the viv. They all seem to have their own area they enjoy the most. Sid loves to have his chin stroked but enjoys being stroked all over. John is like Sid, loves to be stroked even likes having the end of his tail fiddled with lol. Keith is just lazy and will put up with anything and Frank likes his body being stoked but not his head as does Kevin and Spencer likes being stroked anywhere but not his tail. I actually find it therapeutic to stroke them maybe I am a bit odd

I've tried stroking Cornelius on his head but he backed away.

He is still only little tho' so I'll try again when he gets bigger.

I do touch rest of his body & give him kisses which he seems to like!!

ha!! so I'm not totally cracked then- phew. good to know

chin rubbing seems quite common- I'll see what Debbie thinks of that this evening when she's out

sharon (only 7months) will NOT put up with being touched anywhere near her head- I think the older the snake, the more used to people/handling, I suppose... plus their very different characters will affect it

Sorry Nicky, you are totally cracked ... just like the rest of us.

Mirkey and two of the Corns seem to like a chin scratch but Woody is generally a bit more skittish. When he does settle down in my arm he tolerates stroking but no where near his head.

I think it is just the natural vulnerability of the head area which causes snakes to recoil from contact.
