Any tape could come use, so its better not to use it at all, just use a hide to weigh it down. Tape is defo a no no, regardless how strong it is, if the snake gets stuck at all it could do serious damage and can enough stress to kill the snake. Please take this advise from me and blackcat. Its good advise x |

I also read that tape can cause serious problems, but I am using a very strong tape which I trialled for a fortnight before snake purchase. It didn't come loose at all, and it was not affected by heat over the two week period. I want no harm to come to my snake, and so made sure that he couldn't peel it back, or get under it himself. When covered with a thin layer of substrate he doesn't go under there anyway
If you don't feel comfortable using tape at all then I wouldn't, obviously, but I was happy with the durability of the tape that I am using, and the measures I took in making sure it was as secure as possible. I haven't had problems with it yet! When I clean the viv out, I ensure to check the tape, and if it looks at all worn, or on the verge of peeling, I will happily replace it.
I hope I haven't opened a heated discussion on the use of tape

Oh dear, not another debate! This is my first corn, so I thought testing it first would have been ok, but when I clean the viv out in the next few days I will remove the tape. Will pinning it down with a hide be enough to keep it down, as I don't want snakey getting underneath the mat! |

I think removing it and all traces of any residues is definately the best thing to do, I would worry that however well stuck I thought tape was, I would constantly worry about snake working corners up and getting stuck!! I have a small exo terra viv for my snake, so my mat is stuck to glass on the under side, so I have no experience yet of mats inside wooden vivs, but think weighing down with hides is the general way people keep their mats in place. I agree another debate is not needed :) |

None of my heat mats are taped down they are just sitting on the bottom of the wooden viv with a hide on top. The youngsters have empty boxes for hides and this means that they can and do get under the heat mat. As long at the mat is on a stat and the stat probe can not be moved form the mat it causes no problems, infact I think they enjoy getting under the mat. |

Brilliant, thanks guys, looked like I learnt something new here as well! Everything is all statted up so I guess it shouldn't be too much of a problem. And this is how to deal with things without causing a full-scale riot... |

LOL love the picture/sketch a few pages back :) and i noo the thigs i said was a wee bit harsh but ever since i joined ive had notheing but hassle. As in if i do it you have to do it act for instance my first post was a snake for sale instantley get a cheeky reply saying picture will help and a cheesy grin, followed by price would help. i no thats not rude or anything but clearly neather are interested in the sale, its just as if you have to reply to everything to gain merit points even though half the time there is no need to.If someone was really interested thay are going to ask theese things then if they go further you know they are not time wasteing. Kindly another member offered to post them up which im very greatfull for:)and thats what it should be like. Rather than just makeing you feel bad and cornerd because its not the same way.
Someone else had a tank for sale- boom straight away (this is how i would advertise it aproach ???)
We are all entitled to opionions and we all know this, its been stated and it is a Forum but if something works for someone then cant it be left that way?.We all want the best for our animals at the end of the day and thats why we are here so cant attatudes be more like helping someone if there is a question rather than i do this! i wouldnt do that so neither can you approach. Not one person on this forum is going to actally harm there snakes or want to. Its as iff every post has to be replyed to compareing to a individuel set up and somepost's are for no reason just to have a post i supose. By all means share opinions but dont have to be so heavy on people all the time as above. Granted that should of been my response and it shall be like that for now ofton it was always just the same member that sticks out very pushy and then popped.
I can say this as im a recent new member. help does go along way if it can be given but being pushy and compareing will get you no where and make other membors feel very uncomfortable at times and not very welcomed at all but georgina if you walked of some where im pretty sure no one would follow would they?
all out the system now and its been the two most interesting topics of them all :) So i give my apoligies to all and everyone includeing you georgina mostly infact
All the best Danny

This. If in any doubt, use a ceramic tile to weigh the pad down with. |
