thats a toughie as ideally the water should be changed at least a few times a week i dont know what to suggest sorry id suggest just using a bigger bowl but over 10-14 days thats gonna stagnate plus if they poop in it the first day after uve gone theyve effectively got no water |

Find some that can come round, or see if you can take the snake to someone that can change the water, so snakey gets a little holiday aswel but I can't see any other option, some repshops with house them for a fee. |

Problem with the waterfall besides raising humidity is that curious corns poke themselves anywhere, and it couldn't take much for them to get stuck.
I'd reccomend taking him for reptile boarding at a shop, sure it costs, but you can't put a price on piece of mind :) |

I wouldn't leave any of mine unchecked for that amount of time. What if the heating screws up, the thermostat falters, the probes get moved, the water gets tipped over, etc etc etc. Definitely recommend either a pet sitter to check on him or board him at a reputable shop. |

I've been a week unchecked, just filled up the water bowl/ had 2 water bowls in but someone came round every day to check the cats so if there was a problem with snakes, they could have fixed it. If they poo in water the first few days your gone, its kinda screwed for the erst of the time. |

are there any pet sitters near you who could check them for you? try gb pet sitters, they might have some one in your area how woyld be able to come and check them for you, not sure how much it would cost but at least you know that they are being checked, plus they are fully insured and most have been CRB checked. |

I wouldn't leave a snake any longer than a few days without anyone going in to check on it and change the water. As others have said, something could go wrong with the thermostat or mat, it could poo in the water, etc.
Snakes are low maintenance pets, but not that low maintenance. |

That is far too long to leave them. Any water be it in a dripper or big bowl will stagnate. The heat source could fail, trip a fuse and that's the electric gone, you need someone to either check on them every 3-4 days max, ideally daily though or put them into your local reptile shop where they will be looked after. |

Sorry but I have to agree with lotabob and say that Eeji and Okeetee you're wrong in just leaving it
I understand that you come back and everything was fine
But what you don't understand is things can go wrong, like pooping in the water.
Even if the water remained untouched apart from snakies drinking , what if they in shed and you missed the blue stage,
Also keepers change water on a daily - few days basis - to prevent any algae or bacteria building up which can be cause snakies to be quite ill
Because if not, then why do we bother changing the water at all every day or few days, why doesn't keepers just leave the water for 7 - 10 days as one less thing to do,
I think fresh water should be given and someone who has some knowledge, parent, or friend should keep regulary checks on them, or take them to a reptile place and pay a boarding fee.
Just my opinion

Struggling to see where your coming from, you seem to think I lack simple common sense so let me explain!
I know when I am going away so stop feeding a couple of weeks before so there is not much chance the water will get pooped in, in fact I have never had this happen anyway and yes snakes can do without food for three or four weeks without problems.
Absolutely fail to see why being in blue and shedding should be a concern, they all manage perfectly well on their own any other time.
You talk of algae and bacteria building up which can cause snakes to become ill, not sure if you live in the tropics but I have never seen algae grow in such a short time at the temps we keep snakes, to be totally honest and certainly not wishing to offend you it's quite a ridiculous statement.
I appreciate people's concern regarding thermostats but in all honesty the build quality and reliability of mine (Habistat pulse) the chances of them failing is miniscule, you might as well say you will not throw the dog a ball in case it swallows it, could happen but extremely unlikely. |

I never said or insinuated you lack common sense just simply aired my opinion with reasons behind it (which are not ridicolous, as algae and bacteria can grow in water in the temps inside a viv, it ay not be visual to your naked eye, but certainly microscopically which is all that is needed to create illness)
And as I said but its more precaution,
Dogs can go 4 days without water combined with 5 days without food before it becomes ill.
Does that mean, if you have a poop corner that he is trained to use, etc you would live him alone for 2 or 3 days? No you would want someone to keep an eye on it.
It was an opinion with reasonable reasons behind it. You did not need to be offensive in stating I have a ridicolous statement.
Even if habistat (which I use) are robust, only takes a power cut to wiped it if not using surge protectors. So miniscule, yes, but impossible no.
By the way I was not offensive, so would kindly ask you refrain for being offensive towards me, Thankyou

surley you would rather not to risk the health of your snakes and for the sake of say £15 put them into a rep shop for the length of the holiday regardless of the reasons and just for piece of mind. |

I've left mine for a week, never two weeks but if they aren't going to be fed so they can't poop then it's fine I think, never occurred to me not to feed them to avoid the chances of poop in bowls I'll have to remember that one! I just normally top the water bowls up high. Snakes can drink a lot worse than 2 week old water, they are pretty hardy animals and I actually find my snake prefer old water rather than new fresh water.
In regrading to stats, I don't see how going away on holiday is any worse than leaving the house for school/work? If it's going to fail then it will be bad no matter the amount your out the house. The only thing you can see if probes have been moves about but if your probes are glues or out of reach of the snake then.
£15 is fine for 1 pet snake but I myself cannot afford to really board 5 of them, I would even doubt the petshop would have enough room for 5 snakes that they can't flog and then what if they come back with mites or another illness after being their I can't imagine it being sensible for people's who collections are the size of what is in a petshop being able to board them. |

I think its just personal choice, like most things, I personelly made sure there was some who would be able to stay and look after our animals before I got them, but I'm just over prepaired. And I have other animals that need feeding daily/ twice a day so I would need someone there anyways, if other people have done for a week maybe you could find someone that could pop in once, just in case something has happened? I just read my previous comments and I sounded like I was preaching, I wasn't it was just how I would look at it if I was in the situation. :) |

Also I only have small top opening vivs that can be transported easily if needed. I would more than happily board peoples snake if they could bring the equip. |
