Hey my name's Matt and I'm new to this.. I have a question, what senses do corn snakes have? I know their bodys are not particularly good at telling if they're too hot or not, resulting in them getting burnt by their lamps etc and they can obviously smell and sense with their tongue. Can they sense heat & heatbeat? What or how do they see? anyone got any info? Thanks |

haha thanks for the replys guys! Im just trying to get an idea of what and how well they can see and feel. What kind of distance they can see and is it black and white like a dog, or colour or thermal? Okeetee mick, your corns look AMAZING! where did you get them? I really want a black white and grey morph but cant seem to find a shop that stocks them and I am warey of internet pets... |

Hi Matt, thank you for your comments regarding my collection. The only advice I would offer is to buy from a reputable reptile shop as opposed to a pet shop as the advice given from the latter is at best poor, only select a snake that you really do want and not get the first one you see as he or she will be with you a long time. Mine were obtained from Penfolds in Herne Bay and from Procorns http://www.procorns.co.uk/ As far as what they see there better qualified members on here that can answer that than me, I do believe they cannot see in the red spectrum which is why a lot of keepers use red heat lamps, this enables them to view their snakes in a darkened room with the snake being unaware they are being spied on

Hi Matt, welcome to the forum! I believe they also have some kind of heat sensors in their heads to sense the body heat of their prey. That's why warm defrosted prey is best. |

Hi and welcome. from what i looked at before buying mine. this is what i read Snakes see in infer red/thermal imaging. they sense vibrations through their bottom jaw. which in turn sends a signal to their inner ear and then its changed to a restricted version of sound. They are akso supposedly have pressure sensors for atmospheric changes. to detect high and low pressure brung around when it rains and storms etc. |
