Hi, I should stop reading this forum so much because it's making me ask more questions!
Reading about sphagnum moss now... do we need some of this in our snakes fauna or not? To be honest, it would have to be a small amount if we do.

Simple answer...only if you find your little one has problems shedding. Some people put some damp moss in a hide when their corn goes into blue, but i have never done so, and have not yet had any real issues with my corn shedding.
Sphagnum moss...sounds disgusting for some reason (maybe that is just my mind) |

Thanks again garrie, I'm finding this forum strangely addictive.....!! Just can't wait for my little one to hurry up & settle in then I can get some pics & handle him!! I understand this is what they have to do but he's testing my patience! hehe.
It'll be worth it I know in the end & I'm worrying unnessecarily but just don't want anything to go wrong through our ignorance.
The thermostat has been despatched - realise now we should have got one when we set his fauna up but shop told us we didn't need one.
When stat does arrive, I won't settle until I know that's all done & working right with the thermometers! Something else to worry about!
Good job my partner stays calm & doesn't worry about much!!
It is just your mind I think! |

As Garry said, it can be useful if your snake is a problem shedder. I think I have only ever needed it once though. It can also be used for a lay box for gravid females but I don't think you need to worry about that just yet.
You will not be the only one who has a strange addiction to this site. I get withdrawl symptoms if I don't come on at least once a day |

I don't bother with any moss, any damp paper..
Simple solution, try putting your waterdish over the heatmat.. try sharing the mat between dish and hide, it will make the tank that little bit humid for the snake to shed, also a warm soak option is there for the scaley. change it daily though, and move it back once he's shed.
Easy.  |
