Hi, I currently have 2 hides in my vivarium for my corn snake ginger. She is now 4ft, and she can fit in her cold hide with no problems, but her warm hide is too small. She is using a Zoo Med Repti hide for the warm hide though I can not remember if it is med or large. I was hoping I could get several suggestions on hides for a snake that is at 4ft (and still growing it seems)being that I am sure everyone here has different hides that work for them. Pics, links, etc would be very helpful
cheers!!!! |

There are so many choices out there for hides...others will certainly give you links etc - I would suggest that in the meantime/interim period you could just use a big cereal box or something so Ginger has somewhere to hide at the warm end |

Have a look in the pet shop, they sell large plastic igloo type houses for guinea pigs maybe that would be a better size. Or an empty large ice cream tub with a hole cut in the front :-) |

Two of mine love their whisky bottle carton (tubes). They are 4ft and 5 ft and have plenty of room.
There is a picture of Taggart the 5 footer checking out the neighbourhood in the last post of this topic: http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=19552 |

I think corns are like kids when it comes to hides. You can buy all these fancy toys/hides but they will choose a cardboard box over them any day.

Alice is currently curled up in a cardboard box that is too small for him. He loves it tho.
Shoe boxes, cereal boxes, biscuit tins. Use your imagination. I am always looking at things and thinking if I can turn them into a hide. Wilkos did a set of 3 colourful mixing bowls that I was going to get and use as hides. Then common sense took over and I remembered I already have way too much snakie stuff |

The square tissue boxes make good hides. Hole in the top right ready as well. |

The old style lunch boxes. You can usually pick them up for a couple quid at G&T's or similar.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!!! I opted for the guinea pig igloo from Pets at Home for 5 quid. Ginger loves it so far, and it adds a little color to the environment which is even better :D |

I have never bought a hide in my life. I just think they're over priced, especially when it's too much fun to make them yourself! I use paper-mache hides. All you need is strips of news paper, non toxis glue and non toxic paint. You can paint a fun backgrund on it and it'll be more of an achievement. |

The paper-mache idea is great, I may give this a go... Does anyone know if wallpaper paste is safe, this is what I used to use to make my paper-mache. |

I'm not sure of wall paper paste. I use watered down PVA glue or anything equivelent. As long as it's suitable for children, I'm pretty sure it's okay for snakes. |
