Hello. me again... another question already.

I will hopefully be getting my hatchling sometime next week, I'm still waiting to hear from the reptile shop as to whether they can get hold of the snake I want... Diffusion/Bloodred or Sunkissed.

In the meantime I have been looking into bits and pieces I should be getting in preparation for it's arrival, which leads me to my question...

Whilst trawling through ebay I came across this listing...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/reptile-vivarium-Heat-Mat-Exo-Terra-Thermometer-/260852213840?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Reptiles_Spiders_Insects&hash=item3cbc00e850#ht_500wt_1156

I was just hoping someone could tell me if it would be a worthwhile investment and if its suitable for a corn snake as its only 20mins down the road from me, I know it would be to big to start with but I don't know at what age/size a hatchling could go into something of this size.

Also..

What are peoples feelings on buying 2nd hand with regards to cleaning and the chances of the snake catching something.

In the photo it looks as though the heat mat is to large for my needs as it looks as though it covers 3/4 of the tanks floor. It seems a good price at the buy it now price of £24.99 but if it would be any good I would wait to see if I could get it for less.

thanks again in advance for any replies..

There are also cheaper alternatives to the Vivarium. That would only last 6-8 months (or once the snake reaches 2ft in length.

I've found the Exo Terra to be very safe, but depending on the size of your hatchling may be a bit big to start with, so ideal for putting a small RUB in for extra safety. Our snake is 13 months now, and has been very happy in his Exo Terra (same size as the one you're looking at). We're just putting together a 'proper' wooden viv for him to move into soon :-). I agree, the heat mat is a bit big, we went for a 6x11 mat which was a perfect fit.

thanks all, i may just wait and see if i could get it near the starting price of £9... bargain.

I like the idea of keeping the small rub in for extra security...
