I have seen some very nice exo terra terrariums on sale (highly reduced in price) and was thinking about getting one for fluffy, I know that it won't last him long as he is almost 3ft long already but it's a very good bargain and will come in handy for my next snakie anyway
My question is are terrariums alright to use with snakes, the one I was looking at has a natural background included, also I will be providing extra hiding places so that he won't feel exposed |

I have an exo terra. They're fine to use but those background things will do your head in. My snake used to constantly hide behind it for days at a time!! |

I've always kept Barnaby in Exo Terra terrariums, 1st in a 30x30x30cm then a 45x45x45cm and I've now just moved him into a 60x45x45cm. I already had the terrariums as I used to keep harvest mice in them, so I thought that I may as well use them for the snakes.
Since they are all glass I've heard that some more nervous snakes will need the sides covered up so they don't feel so exposed, plus glass is not good at retaining heat so you would need to keep an eye on the temps. But I've not had a problem with Barnaby in them and have never needed to cover the sides up, though I do have loads of silk plants in the terrarium to act as cover. I need to keep my room warm anyway because of my 6 African pygmy hedgehogs so have never had a problem with losing heat in the terrarium either. |

We have Voldemort in an Exo Terra, but I did remove the background as we never saw him, he spent the whole time hiding behind it! Since removing it he's been out more during the day, and much more relaxed.I really wanted to just move up a size as I've been really happy with it,and feel it's really safe and escape proof. But he's my 10 yr old daughter's snake and she's insisted on a wooden viv in the horrible tobacco walnut colour for his new tank. |

My OH wants a dark effect wooden viv but I like the terrariums, if I do go with the terrarium I'll be sure to take the background out and see how he does, he is a very outgoing friendly snake and isn't the slightest bit nervous so he should be fine without it, also he will have hides |

The background takes up a lot of room too. I wanted a beech viv, but as my daughter pointed out 'well he's my snake and in my room'..kids lol. |
