Hi Everyone, How are you all? Thanks again for your help with the set-up of my viv.
Sir Hiss has been with me for just over week now and seems to be settled as he ate on Tuesday
However, he seems to only want to hide in his caves (both temps) and I wanted to know if it is acceptable to get him out from there or wait until he is out of his caves (whenever that might be!) He was used as a school/zoo handling snake before I bought him so he has been handled LOADS. Just don't want to upset him.
He doesn't appear to be getting ready to shed - his eyes are normal and he ate Tuesday. So if you guys say you think it's OK to get him out from the caves, what's the best way to pick him up when he is coiled up!!
Cheers Garrie - do you intentionally have the Never Ending Story symbol on your pictures or is that coincidence? I thought it was pretty cool either way!!

Nicely spotted - http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=18277&SearchTerms=naming,stories - this is a thread i started a while ago which gives a bit more info as to why.

With regards to Sir Hiss...I would say that it is okay to take him from his hide, just ensure you do it nice and calmly and ensure he knows you are there etc first. Most of the time, i get AURYN out when he is out and about, but i have been known to disturb him from his hide (to no ill effect). I guess all snakes are different (and admittedly i don't particularly like bothering him when he is in his hide) but i don't think it is really a problem. Do bear in mind though that if it is daytime, he will probably be asleep and might not appreciate being woken up.

Picking him up...keep your hand going at a steady pace (don't be doing the Hokey Cokey) - get your hand underneath him if possible (and don't go in from up high, as this may scare him). Best of luck, though i'm sure all will be fine
