1 day course is more than most newbie snake keepers (including myself). My Pets at Home (Belfast) is an amazing shop, lovely stock, animals, adoption corner, staff are evry helpful and know their stuff. My only complaint is their prices, though their live food is SO cheap. |

yes but its only the managers attend the course not all staff ours is ok long as your not wanting fish theyre aqautics dept is pretty bad its not the worst place in town Havent bought any live food from them but theyre frozen mice are cheapest in the area cost me 9 quid last week for 12 pinkies and 12 fuzzies which i thought was quite reasonable |

The one near me isn't too good, once I went in to ask about a hamster and the man was like "ummmm don't know" to every question i asked, i guess some stores are better than others |

I agree, the frozen food is cheap ... 1 large mouse costs me £1.10 also the mice look in good condition (apart from the obvious ) |

A friend of mine is a manager at Pets at home and recently went on a 2 week course to care for snakes. Sadly she's still terrified of them, and has invited my 10 yr old in to handle the babies when they arrive to help get them tame. Niamh is so excited and can't wait until the snakes arrive lol. |

Had an embarrassing ordeal in a pets at home store once, went into look at getting Shere Khan (my corn) some viv paraphernalia and was looking at the bearded dragons they had thinking hmmmm can I afford it ? Then noticed one of the dragons had about 7 or 8 White lumps with red sores around the edges. So I asked the girl a few questions to get to the question of the lumps 'so are they kept ok ? As that ones got sores round its mouth and eyes' (girl) ' where ?' (me) 'there you see ? Looks nasty, little White lumps and red sores round them' (girl 'actually sir that's strawberry.....it's been eating strawberries and it's the little seeds of the skin...... (me) 'oh.....right' (girl, eyes saying w***er but fixed smile) 'will there be anything else ?, (me) 'um....no.....um....thanks' run
So the moral is they're not all bad I think :) |

Ive nothing against Pets at home or any pet stores but when it comes to animals especially reptiles i dont think a learn as you go approach on the job is very sensible especially not when you have people such as myself new to the Hobby not knowing much you expect places that sell animals to be able to advise you on the animals needs/care appopriately. As i mentioned before in a previous thread regarding thermostats 3 of the 4 places in town that sell reptiles dont actually sell them and funnily enough the only one that did sell them was the only place that insisted they must be used if you plan to keep reptiles (the others said they were unessacery and that the animal would move itself if it got too hot!!)
In pets at homes defence whenever i have had a problem theyve been more than happy to rectify it and have on ocasion thrown in extras as compensation.

I was looking at hides they sold while I was there too, a coconut cave was £6.99, when fluffy was small i'd buy a coconut for about 50p and make a hide myself to be fair, I like the adoption corner they have, nice to see unwanted animals get a second chance. My corn was a rescue, i got him when he was about 3 months old |
