Hi guys, here's the story...
I brought home a stunning looking baby corn a week ago. it stayed in the r u b It came in from the shop for one night, and then I moved him to his new faun.the thing is when I cleaned out the rub I came across 3 shrivvelled, dried pinkys! Has my corn not taken it's last 3 feeds I thought.so I rang the shop to let them know and they said" oh that's strange" etc. He Seems to have settled in to his new home, stays in the warm hide most of the day and after about 8pm every eve it's out and about exploring it's new home. Now I tried a feed on sun and it wasn't interested at all, when should I try again? It's horrible to think it's not taken food for 3 weeks or more, do hatchlings generally take a while to feed? Or could there be other issues? The shop said try for another week or so, and if no luck bring him back, but in only a week I've become somewhat attached to my new corn and would rather not replace him. Please help.

My set up is as follows,
1 small faunarium,
substrate-aspen
1 heat mat & thermostat covering 1 3rd.
2 hides, warm& cool area.
Water bowl
warm temp at 29-30
cool temp at 23-24. |

set up initially sounds fine, how are you measuring the temps? it could possibly have been the move that caused the regurge.......
i'd leave it alone for about 2 weeks since you found the regurged pinkies then offer it the smallest pinky you can get. after 3 consecutive weekly feeds i'd say you were safe to handle it.
i know it's hard when you have a new pet but that really is the best way to deal with it from the snake's health point of view 
if you've any concerns i'd advise either contacting the shop again or an exotics vet (or both - at least it keeps the shop informed on the issue) |

| Thanks Alison,Really appreciate your replies, I haven't touched the little fella... Much! No honestly I haven't.He's out right now, exploring! Very inquisitive! But ignores any food,I've got other pets and feeding,being a fairly important part of life, has never been an issue with my two dogs, rabbit and marine fish! It feels like it's out of my control, just hope the little fella does what he should do soon... Eat!!!! |

A friend of mine recently had an issue with her baby corn, and I'd read somewhere that putting a little bit of marmite on the head of the pinkie will encourage the snake to eat it - after about 10mins of putting her little cinder in with the mouse, it was gone. She hadn't eaten for about 5 weeks before that.
I read it somewhere on this forum, but I couldn't find where to get you a link..It's worth a try if you've tried all the usual methods to try and get him interested in food x |

| Seraea, I read about the marmite thing yesterday,worth a try if all else fails! I'm gonna give it a few more days settling in and then try another feed. Thanks for that. |

Hi Matt,
I would also try feeding your hatchling on kitchen roll and in a seperate rub. Possibly also try doing it in the dark. Then he doesn't feel like he's being watched, he won't swallow any aspen while he's eating (if he eats) and he will probably be in a smaller tub, thus find the pinkie and (hopefully) eat it. I would put a kitchen roll tube or something as well in the rub so he can hide in it.
