Hi guys, I've been trawling the Internet for info on the correct way to heat a glass bottomed viv... So many different opinions!
Would I be right in saying that the mat should be on the outside of viv, directly on top of the cabinet, then a 5mm air gap for circulation, then the glass? Please help as I'm In the process of setting up and want to do it right!
Cheers, matt.

I have a glass viv and my mats inside, haven't had a problem, just make sure you have your thermometer and thermostat probes on top of the mat

Most heat mats can go either inside or outside the viv, the only exception to this rule is the komodo mats (so I believe), they specify that they need at least a 5mm air gap.
So long as the mat has the thermostat probe inside the viv then there's no chance of the mat overheating.
I have heat mats under a couple of glass vivs at the moment, I have it like so:
Cabinet, sheet of polystyrene, heatmat, glass viv.
I use the polystyrene for 2 reasons, firstly it's insulating so directs all the heat from the mat upwards making it more efficient at heating, secondly the polystyrene allows for the cable connector on the mat to squash into it a bit so it's not constantly getting pressed between cabinet/glass bottom.
You can just trim the bit of poly sheet a bit to allow for a little bit of space for the connector then as well.
