answer to the original Q:

if its only a pinky, drop one into a cup of boiling water for a few minutes then when you take it out let it cool to a sensible temperature and feed while its still nice and warm.

You may or may not get a popped pinky belly but its still good to feed. The skin will feel all loose and squishy because the underlying fat melts so you may tear the skin, again its still good to feed (the extra juicy smells may actually help)
