My ministat 100s are good stats but a 3-5 degree variation in on and off is actually quite common.

No i wasnt confused, i was def told to do that by other members on here as i read topics about heat mats as i was so confused didnt want to burn snake by letting it get over heated, but i will try what you have said to do, so what is min and max "hot" temp? |

27-29 is ideal for hot end temps, |

finally! just try repositioning your stat probe, like lotabob said directly on the heat mat, keep your thermometer probe on top of the substrate so you're still measuring the temp where the snake will be. tweak the ministat so the temps are correct according to the thermometer. what sort of thermometer are you using btw? |

I use a ministat 100 too and my temps have about a 5 degree drop too. I've used lots of these micro climate ones they all do it. My heat mat is under her tank and my digi theometer is on the bottom. It drops from 29-24 degrees when the mat stat turns off. The pulse stats are best for constant temps I find!

I also use the minstat 100's. I find them very good and only have a 2-3 degree variation.

if the warm end is ranging from 24*C to 29*C i'd personally be inclined to turn it up a degree or 2 so the range is 26-31*C that way the optimum temp is in the middle of the range rather than the snake being below the optimum temp for the majority of the time |

That is exactly what I do. Perfect example of how to set a microclimate ministat, well done GP. |
