I know that people use either kitchen roll or aspen to line their vivs and am asking this so I know what to look out for - when snakes toilet will they only use one part of their viv or will they poop anywhere?

Also, what colour is snake poop and what should you look out for if you think there's a problem?

Even thought of a few names and I've not got my snake yet lol - Rico for a boy and Siena for a girl. I must be daft or is it normal to be this excited lol.

Mind is changing on snakes I want now lol so am researching these to find out what would be best - Milk Snakes and Dwarf Boa possibly - Crawl Cay, Sonoran, Tarahumara or Vera Cruz and poss a Hoggie, African House and Rat snake. Also Trinket Snakes.

Mine just poo anywhere. Sometimes in the corners, sometimes in a hide, sometimes in their water bowl!

You will know when they poo, the smell is a clear giveaway!! Even more so if they poo on the warm side!!

it can look similar to bird poo, though adult corns' poo is sometimes more formed with undigestable mouse bits in, like hair!

believe me, you don't have to worry about missing it lol

youngsters are often (but not all) messy b***ers so with kitchen roll it's quick and easy to do a full clean. some poo in their hides, out of their hides, on decor, in water bowls.....the potential for poop is as great as you are creative with their enclosure!!

My corn is a good lad, he only goes in the cold back corner, apart from once when he hid it, I only found it smoothing down the substrate and felt something gooey under my fingernail but as previously said you will know its there when they poo, I can smell it as soon as I walk in my living room, luckily as soon as its cleaned the smell goes.

I was so excited about getting my first snake, I had to wait until it was ready to be released by the breeder as I wanted an Anery and the shop didn't have one. Then I had to wait for a vivarium to be delivered before I could get my Royal and it was such a difficult week and a bit. I'm now waiting again (grrr) for my Boa this time I have the setup and the snake is reserved but I'm going away this weekend, too excited about this one, I get giddy every time I look at its RUB setup. I even get excited planning what to get next so yeah its totally normal and you'll get addicted to them and have to go through it again and again and again.

posted by Ailsa, transferred by GP so not multiple threads on the same subject

Folks have said in my first post about this that I'll notice straight away when my new corn poops, is their smell quite a strong smell and if so how strong is it?

Impossible to answer as it depends on how strong your stomach is and how good you are with smells!!!

Once you have smelt it you will know the smell the next time.

Regarding the poo. When my corn poos, it really stinks the office out. When my cali poos it's not far behind. My favourite pooer is my royal. You can still work as the odours disperse, which is more than you can say with the other two.
Snakes can be like a drug. The more you have, the more you want.
Getting excited about a new snake is a feeling that will be repeated over and over again.
I don't recommend trying to type at the computer with a corn in the hand, as I am now discovering. This is a species of snake with the proverbial ants in the pants.
